IN 2021, ASWC PROVIDED VIRTUAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS IN WHICH THE TEACHERS AND COUNSELORS INTERACTED IN SEVERAL WAYS WITH WORKFORCE PROFESSIONALS AND LEARNED ABOUT PROJECT BASED LEARNING.

A TOTAL OF 160 COUNSELORS AND MATH, SCIENCE, CYBERSECURITY, AND CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) TEACHERS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL SUBMITTED APPLICATIONS TO ATTEND THE SUMMER VIRTUAL SESSIONS.OF THOSE, 78 TEACHERS COMPLETED THE EXTERNSHIPS REPRESENTING 14 INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND 48 CAMPUSES.OVER 24% OF THE EDUCATORS APPLYING IN 2021 WERE IN THEIR FIRST CAREER. THIS MEANS THEY HAVE LESS KNOWLEDGE OF EMPLOYER NEEDS THAN THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE WORKFORCE PRIOR TO TEACHING.OF THE 160 EDUCATORS WHO APPLIED, 60% HAD FIVE OR MORE YEARS OF TEACHING EXPERIENCE. JUST OVER 33% HAD MORE THAN 10 YEARS OF TEACHING EXPERIENCE.THE RESULTS SHOWED INCREASES IN KNOWLEDGE OF LOCAL COMPANIES, STEM CAREER, TECHNICAL AND PERSONAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS, AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS.THE PARTICIPATING TEACHERS GAVE THE EXTERNSHIP HIGH QUALITY RATINGS.
