(RCGA) IS A NON-PROFIT CORPORATION ORGANIZED FOR THE PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHING COMMUNITY GARDENS IN ORDER TO PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS TO 1) GARDEN 2) BEAUTIFY THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND PROVIDE A MEETING PLACE FOR NEIGHBORS AND 3) PROMOTE, EDUCATE, AND DISSEMINATE INFORMATION ABOUT THE SUSTAINABILITY AND FOOD SECURITY TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. ROANOKE COMMUNITY GARDENS ASSOCIATION IS FUNDED BY REVENUE FROM AGENCY PROGRAMS AND GRANTS FROM LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES. IN 2018, RCGA SERVED 60 REGISTERED GARDENERS, OFFERED GARDENING AND NUTRITION EDUCATION PROGRAMMING TO THE PUBLIC, AND PARTNERED WITH MULTIPLE OTHER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO BUILD COMMUNITY THROUGH GARDENING. OUR DOZENS OF VOLUNTEERS OFFERED THEIR SERVICES THROUGHOUT 2018 TO MAKE OUR PROGRAMMING AND GARDENS POSSIBLE. THROUGH OUR EFFORTS IN 2018, THE SOUTHEAST QUADRANT OF ROANOKE NOW HAS A NEW COMMUNITY GARDEN, WHERE WE WERE PREVIOUSLY UNABLE TO SERVE THIS COMMUNITY.
