DURING 2022-2023 BRICELAND VFD PROVIDED 473 PERSON-HOURS ON 4 ASSIGNMENTS TO THE CA DEPT. OF FORESTRY & FIRE PROTECTION CALFIRE FOR REIMBURSABLE MUTUAL AID AND COVER ASSIGNMENTS. OUR 2022 IN-DISTRICT AND MUTUAL AID CALLS FOR WILDLAND AND STRUCTURE FIRES, EMERGENCY MEDICAL AID, VEHICLE ACCIDENTS, AND SMOKE CHECKS TOTALED 58 CALLS, AND OUR CREWS COMPLETED 957 PERSON-HOURS OF TRAINING, AS WELL AS VOLUNTEER TIME ON FUNDRAISERS, MAINTENANCE, AND MEETINGS.IN THE SPRING OF 2023 BVFD FACILITATED A REGIONAL PSFA FIRE FIGHTER TRAINING EVENT AND FOR THE SECOND YEAR, HELD THE WILDLAND FIRE ACADEMY TRAINING REFRESHER AND RT-130 COURSE OVER TWO WEEKENDS, AGAIN FUNDED BY A GRANT FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF CA AT DAVIS. 47 STUDENTS COMPLETED THE ACADEMY TO BECOME NEWLY CERTIFIED TYPE 2 FIRE FIGHTERS, AMONG WHICH WERE 8 TEENAGERS (OUR NEXT GENERATION OF FIRE FIGHTERS!), 13 MEMBERS OF THE NATIVE HEALTH IN NATIVE HANDS GROUP, AND SEVERAL MEMBERS FROM THE HUMBOLDT CO. PRESCRIBED BURN ASSOCIATION.IN THIS PAST YEAR BVFD HAS BEGUN TO FOCUS ON PLAYING AN INTEGRAL ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE REGIONAL PRESCRIBED AND CULTURAL BURNS BEING CONDUCTED AND, TO FURTHER THIS TYPE OF COMMUNITY, PRO-ACTIVE, WILD FIRE PREPAREDNESS AND DEFENSE, ARE CREATING A FUELS CREW REDUCTION TEAM TO REDUCE FIRE HAZARDS IN IDENTIFIED HOT SPOTS WITHIN OUR REGION.
