MCFSC MANAGED GRANT-FUNDED PROJECTS THAT REDUCE FUEL LOADS AND IMPROVE WILDLFIRE MITIGATION IN MENDOCINO COUNTY. THIS YEAR THE MCFSC IMPLEMENTED FREE DEFENSIBLE-SPACE CLEARING FOR 109 INCOME-QUALIFIED SENIORS AND/OR DISABLED RESIDENTS, SUPPLIED 105 DAYS OF FREE CHIPPING SERVICES FOR COMMUNITY DEFENSIBLE-SPACE IMPROVEMENT WORK, PROVIDED APPROXIMATELY 238 ACRES OF ROAD CLEARING WORK ON KEY INGRESS/EGRESS ROUTES, IDENTIFIED 45 HOMES WITH HIGH FIRE RISK ROOFS THAT QUALIFIED FOR REPLACEMENT WITH FEDERAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, AND INSPECTED 21 PROPERTIES TO ASSESS FIRE MITIGATION READINESS. MCFSC ALSO PURCHASED A CHIPPER TRUCK WHICH WILL INCREASE ITS ABILITY TO DELIVER COMMUNITY CHIPPING SERVICES AND WORK PROJECTS, AND REDUCE RELATED COSTS IN FUTURE YEARS.
MCFSC INCREASED COMMUNITY AWARENESS REGARDING FIRE PREVENTION AND MITIGATION THROUGH COMMUNITY ORGANIZING, OUTREACH AND EDUCATION. MCFSC PRINTED AND DISTRIBUTED A BEGINNERS GUIDE TO A WILDFIRE-READY HOME, PRINTED AND MAILED 5,000 WILDFIRE READINESS BROCHURES TO MENDOCINO COUNTY HOUSEHOLDS, DEVELOPED A NEW 6-STEPS TO WILDFIRE READINESS WEB PAGE, HOSTED A 5-PART WILDFIRE SAFETY SERIES ON PUBLIC RADIO, AND PRODUCED A COUNTY-WIDE WILDFIRE SAFETY EXPO EVENT. MCFSC HELD REGULAR LEADERSHIP MEETINGS WITH AND PROVIDED DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT FOR ITS AFFILIATED NEIGHBORHOOD FIRE SAFE COUNCILS, WHICH GREW IN THIS FISCAL YEAR FROM 40 TO 51. MCFSC MADE AND DISTRIBUTED 531 REFLECTIVE ADDRESS SIGNS TO COUNTY RESIDENTS. IT CONTINUED EDUCATION AND OUTREACH THROUGH NEWSLETTERS, SOCIAL MEDIA AND SIGNIFICANTLY EXPANDED NEW WEB CONTENT. MCFSC ALSO DRAFTED AND FACILIATED ADOPTION OF A COMMUNITY WILDFIRE PROTECTION PLAN FOR THE HOPLAND AREA.
