GHGMI BUILDS THE CLIMATE CHANGE MITIGATION FIELD BY TRAINING, CERTIFYING AND SUPPORTING GREENHOUSE GAS PROFESSIONALS, THE INDIVIDUALS RESPONSIBLE FOR MEASURING, ACCOUNTING, AUDITING AND MANAGING GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS ACROSS DIFFERENT INDUSTRIES AROUND THE WORLD. GHG PROFESSIONALS ENSURE MARKET MECHANISMS, NATIONAL TARGETS, POLICY RESPONSES AND INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS TO ADDRESS CLIMATE CHANGE ARE TRULY EFFECTIVE AND CREDIBLE. TO DATE GHGMI HAS TRAINED APPROXIMATELY 7,300 GREENHOUSE GAS PROFESSIONALS ACROSS MORE THAN 170 COUNTRIES, INCLUDING OVER 30% OF THE UNFCCC'S OFFICIAL ROSTER OF EXPERTS. BECAUSE OF OUR UNIQUE COMBINATION OF EXPERTISE ON GHG'S, INTERNATIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING, AND PEDAGOGY, THE INSTITUTE HAS CONDUCTED MULTIPLE TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR NUMEROUS GOVERNMENT AUTHORITIES AND LEADING CLIMATE CHANGE INSTITUTIONS, INCLUDING THE UNITED NATIONS FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE (UNFCCC) SECRETARIAT, THE U.S. AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (USAID), THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION, THE REGIONAL GREENHOUSE GAS INITIATIVE (RGGI), AND THE WORLD BANK. SPECIFICALLY, THE INSTITUTE HAS A LONG-RUNNING PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNFCCC TO TRAIN COMPLIANCE REVIEW TEAMS FOR UNFCCC AND KYOTO PROTOCOL REPORTING PARTNERSHIPS. OUR CURRICULUM INCORPORATES THE ISO 14064 SERIES OF STANDARDS INTO ITS TRAINING PROGRAMS THROUGH AN AGREEMENT WITH THE INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR STANDARDIZATION (ISO), AND AS AN INTERNATIONAL LIAISON, GHGMI HOSTS THE WORLD'S LARGEST WORKGROUP CONTRIBUTING TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW ISO CLIMATE CHANGE STANDARDS. GHGMI'S IMPACT IS ACHIEVED THROUGH CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT IN APPLIED GHG MANAGEMENT WORLD-WIDE. OUR PROGRAMS IMPROVE THE SKILL-LEVEL, MOTIVATION, MANAGEMENT STRUCTURES AND RESOURCES NECESSARY TO CONDUCT SMARTER AND MORE GHG MEASUREMENT, REPORTING AND VERIFICATION (MRV) TO ENABLE MEANINGFUL CLIMATE ACTIONS BY GOVERNMENTS, CORPORATIONS, AND ORGANIZATIONS.
