Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
INVESTIGATOR-INITIATED STUDIES - THESE ARE STUDIES CREATED BY NON-INDUSTRY PHYSICIANS, MOST COMMONLY FOR US FROM ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS BUT POSSIBLY ALSO FROM COMMUNITY SITES, AND THOSE PHYSICIANS SERVE AS SPONSOR-INVESTIGATORS. WHEN WE CONDUCT/MANAGE THESE STUDIES, WE PRESERVE RIGHTS FOR US AND OUR MEMBER INSTITUTIONS TO PUBLISH AND ACCESS DATA FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT CONSISTENT WITH OUR TAX EXEMPT PURPOSE. THESE STUDIES MAY BE FUNDED BY INDUSTRY, BUT INDUSTRY IS NOT THE SPONSOR. THE SPONSOR INVESTIGATOR OWNS THE PROTOCOL AND DATA IN AN IIT AND INDUSTRY GETS TO USE THE DATA.
GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS - THE ORGANIZATION TEAMS UP WITH LOCAL UNIVERSITIES, HOSPITALS, AND OTHER COMMUNITY HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS IN ORDER TO PERFORM FEDERAL CONTRACT RESEARCH IN THE CANCER COMMUNITY. THROUGH SUBAWARDS WITH VARIOUS UNIVERSITIES, HOOSIER CANCER RESEARCH NETWORK CONDUCTS PATIENT RESEARCH WITH VARIOUS FEDERAL CANCER PROGRAMS.
INDUSTRY-SPONSORED STUDIES - ON RARE OCCASIONS, WE GET INVOLVED IN INDUSTRY-SPONSORED STUDIES, MEANING A STUDY INITIATED AND CONDUCTED BY A PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY. WHEN WE WORK ON THOSE STUDIES, WE PRESERVE RIGHTS FOR US AND OUR SITES TO PUBLISH AND ACCESS DATA FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT CONSISTENT WITH OUR TAX-EXEMPT PURPOSE. WE DO NOT WORK ON INDUSTRY-SPONSORED STUDIES IN WHICH WE CANNOT PRESERVE PUBLICATION AND DATA ACCESS RIGHTS FOR US AND OUR MEMBER SITES (BECAUSE TO DO SO WOULD BE INCONSISTENT WITH OUR TAX EXEMPT PURPOSE). PHARMA FUNDS THESE STUDIES AND ALSO ACTS AS THE SPONSOR. PHARMA OWNS THE PROTOCOL AND DATA IN THESE STUDIES, AND SITES (AND WE) GET TO USE THE DATA FOR PUBLICATION PURPOSES.
