THE MISSION OF FRIENDS OF THE POOR IS TO BRING TOGETHER IN FRIENDSHIP THOSE WHO HAVE THE DESIRE TO GIVE WITH THOSE WHO ARE IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE, IN ORDER TO EASE THE BURDEN OF LIVING IN POVERTY AND ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ALL.

FAMILY TO FAMILY: PROGRAM STARTED IN 1986 TO PROVIDE NEEDY FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY WITH FOOD AND DINNER BASKETS DURING THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY SEASON. ANNUALLY, THE PROGRAM FEEDS APPROXIMATELY 15,000 PEOPLE AND THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM'S HISTORY HAS PROVIDED OVER 300,000 PEOPLE WITH THANKSGIVING DINNERS. IN 2021, THE PROGRAM SERVED 17,947 INDIVIDUALS ACROSS THREE SEASONAL FOOD DISTRIBUTIONS (EASTER,THANKSGIVING, AND CHRISTMAS) AND SEVERAL COVID-19 EMERGENCY DRIVE-THROUGH DISTRIBUTIONS.
FOOD PANTRIES: 56,362 INDIVIDUALS SERVED IN 2021 ACROSS 17 FULL AND PART-TIME FOOD PANTRIES IN LACKAWANNA COUNTY
CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS: SEVERAL EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN HOSTED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
GENERAL PROGRAMS: CLOTHES LINE FOR MEN, SEASONAL DINNERS, FOOD GIVEAWAYS, AND EVENTS TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO THE COMMUNITY.
