THE ORGANIZATION AWARDS (2) SCHOLARSHIPS TO HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS TO HELP OFFSET THE COST OF TUITION FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF COLLEGE. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE BASED ON FINANCIAL NEED AND AWARDED TO (2) HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WITHIN THE PHYSICAL BOUNDARIES OF THE PITTSTON AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE WYOMING AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE STUDENT CANNOT BE ENROLLED OUTSIDE OF THOSE AREAS. THE STUDENT MUST BE OF IRISH DESCENT AND BE ENROLLED IN A MINIMUM TWO YEAR COLLEGE PROGRAM. APPLICATIONS ARE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE GUIDANCE COUNSELORS OF THE SCHOOLS, ALONG WITH BEING ADVERTISIED IN THE NEWSLETTER AND MEETING/BANQUET BOOKS. THERE ARE NO RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS BASED UPON RACE OR EMPLOYMENT STATUS. MEMBERSHIP IN THE ORGANIZATION IS NOT REQUIRED FOR ELIGIBILITY. RECIPIENTS ARE BASED ONLY ON FINANCIAL NEED ALONG WITH MERIT. QUALIFICATIONS CONSISTING OF ACADEMIC, CIVIC, EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, EMPLOYMENT, ALONG WITH A PERSONAL INTERVIEW. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES RECEIVE THE SCHOLARSHIP UPON PRESENTATION OF AN INVOICE FROM THE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY. RELATIVES OF THE MEMBERS OR THE SELECTION COMMITTEE ARE POSSIBLE RECIPIENTS BUT TO THE PRESENT DATE, HAVE NEVER BEEN RECIPIENTS. NO VIOLATIONS OF THE TERMS OF THE SCHOLARSHIPS HAVE OCCURED.
