THE PURPOSE OF THE SOCIETY IS TO COMPILE, STUDY AND EXCHANGE INFORMATION OF A GENEALOGICAL AND HISTORICAL NATURE AND TO PRESERVE, PERPETUATE AND PUBLISH THE GENEALOGICAL AND HISTORICAL HERITAGE OF THE BLAIR COUNTY AREA FOR THE BENEFIT OF ITS MEMBERS, THE SCHOOLS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

LIBRARY OPERATIONS: THE LIBRARY WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC 74 DAYS WITH 32 DAYS OF LIMITED CAPACITY DUE TO COVID-19 ACCOMODATING 1,900 PATRON VISITS. 86 GENEALOGICAL MAILED-IN AND EMAILED INQUIRIES WERE RESEARCHED AND ANSWERED BY MAIL. LIBRARY OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE WAS ACCOMPLISHED BY 46 VOLUNTEERS WITH 4,972 RECORDED VOLUNTEER HOURS UPDATING GENEALOGICAL RECORDS AND OBITUARIES, CREATING NEW INFORMATIONAL BOOKS FOR PUBLICATION AND MAINTAINING THE BUILDING AND EQUIPMENT.
BOOKS AND PUBLICATIONS: THE SOCIETY'S IN-HOUSE PUBLICATIONS LIST WAS INCREASED BY TWO WITH A TOTAL OF 267 BOOKS, PUBLICATIONS, CD'S AND ITEMS FOR SALE. TOTAL SOLD WAS 132. THERE WERE 15 BOOK PRINTING JOBS DONE FOR INDIVIDUALS.
MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS, EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS: THERE WERE 2 MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC WITH PROGRAMS FEATURING OUTSIDE SPEAKERS. OUTREACH INFORMATIONAL PROGRAMS INCLUDED FIVE VIRTUAL PROGRAMS FOR OTHER HISTORICAL SOCIETIES AND LOCAL LIBRARIES. THE LIBRARY CANCELLED THE GENERAL MEETINGS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR DUE TO THE GOVERNOR CLOSING ALL OF PENNSYLVANIA'S LIBRARIES DUE TO COVID-19.
