NEVADA PUBLIC RADIO (NVPR) IS A PUBLIC BROADCASTING NETWORK COMPRISED OF URBAN AND RURAL COMMUNITY STATIONS SERVING NEVADA, CALIFORNIA AND ARIZONA; KNPR, KCNV, KLNR, KTPH, KWPR, KLKR, AND KVNV, ALONG WITH A SYSTEM OF 8 TRANSLATORS. NVPR'S SERVICE IN ANALOG AND HD INCLUDES TRANSMISSION EQUIPMENT AND ENGINEERING AND TECHNICAL SERVICES AS THEY RELATE TO BROADCASTING OPERATIONS AND DELIVERY OF DIGITAL/ONLINE CONTENT. NVPR ACQUIRES NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION PROGRAMMING FROM PRODUCERS INCLUDING NPR, PUBLIC RADIO INTERNATIONAL AND AMERICAN PUBLIC MEDIA. NVPR IS THE PUBLISHER OF THE CITY REGIONAL MAGAZINE, DESERT COMPANION, WITH AN AUDITED BI-MONTHLY READERSHIP IN EXCESS OF 160,000. ON AIR, ONLINE AND PRINT ACTIVITIES ARE UNDUPLICATED IN OUR REGION IN THEIR PUBLIC SERVICE FOCUS. NVPR IS INVESTING IN MEETING OUR AUDIENCES WHERE THEY ARE AS MEDIA HABITS SHIFT TO DIGITAL DELIVERY, AND AS IMPORTANT, CREATING CONTENT THAT IS RELEVANT TO A MORE DIVERSE POPULATION. NVPR'S MEDIA OUTPUT DEMONSTRATES A "BETTER THAN INDUSTRY" BENCHMARK IN REACHING NON-WHITE AUDIENCES. A GOAL WE SEEK TO MAINTAIN AND EXCEED TO BETTER REFLECT THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE. DESERT COMPANION HOSTS AN ANNUAL PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST WHICH ATTRACTS MORE THAN 1,500 ENTRIES ANNUALLY.
NVPR'S PUBLIC MEDIA SERVICES PLAY A VITAL ROLE IN THE COMMUNITY LIFE OF OUR REGION. WE ELEVATE AWARENESS AND EMPOWER OUR LISTENERS TO RESPOND TO AND ENGAGE WITH OUR SHARED COMMUNITY BY CONNECTING OUR LISTENERS WITH ITS CIVIC, SOCIOECONOMIC, CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL NEEDS. FOR EXAMPLE, AN ANNUAL PARTNERSHIP WITH THREE SQUARE FOOD BANK HAS RESULTED IN HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MEALS DONATED IN LIEU OF TRADITIONAL PUBLIC RADIO THANK YOU GIFTS.
