OUR MISSION IS TO ENHANCE THE LIVES OF OLDER ADULTS THROUGH SERVICES AND COMPASSIONATE CARE DESIGNED TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH, INDEPENDENCE AND ECONOMIC SECURITY OF ALL NASSAU COUNTY SENIORS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
FOLLOWING THE OUTSET OF THE PANDEMIC, NASSAU COUNTY COUNCIL ON AGING CONTINUED TO MAKE GREAT STRIDES IN 2021, FULFILLING OUR MISSION FOR NASSAU COUNTY SENIORS. WITH THE ADVENT OF THE COVID VACCINE, WE PARTNERED WITH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH-NASSAU AND BAPTIST HEALTH-NASSAU TO HELP PROTECT OUR VULNERABLE POPULATION FROM THE VIRUS. NCCOA STAFFERS MADE THOUSANDS OF PHONE CALLS, PROVIDED TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM COUNTY VACCINATION SITES, AND MADE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE TO SENIORS. IN THE MIDST OF OUR NEW NORMAL, WE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE HOME-DELIVERED MEALS, HOME HEALTH AND TELEPHONE REASSURANCE, EVEN AS WE REOPENED THE FERNANDINA BEACH SENIOR LIFE CENTER TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN APRIL 2021. VIRTUAL OFFERINGS CONTINUED THROUGH YEAR-END AS COMMUNITY MEMBERS TOOK ADVANTAGE OF MORE THAN 900 ONLINE AND IN-PERSON ACTIVITIES. RENOVATION CONTINUED ON OUR WESTSIDE SENIOR LIFE CENTER IN HILLIARD, THANKS TO A SECOND APPROPRIATION FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA. THROUGHOUT ALL THE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES, WE LIVED OUR MISSION THROUGH AN ARRAY OF PROGRAMS AND SERVICES FOR CLOSE TO 5,000 SENIORS, SUCH AS NUTRITION SUPPORT WHERE OUR MEALS ON WHEELS AND CONGREGATE MEAL PROGRAMS PROVIDED 57,000 MEALS; ADVOCATE HOME HEALTHCARE WHERE OUR IN-HOME PROGRAM PROVIDED 34,000 HOURS OF SERVICES FOR HOMEBOUND SENIORS; TRANSPORTATION AS NASSAUTRANSIT MADE NEARLY 37,000 TRIPS THROUGHOUT NASSAU COUNTY WITH A FLEET OF 25 VEHICLES; ADULT DAY HEALTHCARE, OUR PROGRAM FOR SENIORS WITH DEMENTIA (ALSO KNOWN AS THE CLUB), REOPENED IN 2021, WITH A FULL SLATE OF ACTIVITIES FOR MEMBERS AND RESPITE FOR CAREGIVERS; CHORE, NCCOAS SMALL HOME REPAIR PROGRAM, HELPED ENSURE THAT 205 SENIORS REMAINED INDEPENDENT AT HOME THROUGH WHEELCHAIR RAMPS, GRAB BARS, RAILS AND OTHER SERVICES; AND OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM WHICH RECRUITED 277 VOLUNTEERS WHO PROVIDED 9,644 HOURS FOR AN IN-KIND VALUE OF MORE THAN 275,000.
