THE RUTHERFORD HOUSE RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES HAVE BEEN ORGANIZED AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITIONAL, SOMETIMES DISTANT YOUTH CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS. JUVENILES WHO COME TO THE ATTENTION OF LOCAL COURTS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR INTAKE CONSIDERATION. IT IS OUR BELIEF THAT YOUTH IN TROUBLE CAN BENEFIT FROM TREATMENT IN A PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES FOR REMOVAL FROM THE HOME ON A SHORT TERM BASIS. OUR GOAL IS TO PROVIDE THE BEST CARE AND TREATMENT FOR THE YOUTH PLACED INTO OUR PROGRAMS. FOR THIS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED, OUR STAFF MUST BY TRULY COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE AND TO THE BELIEF THAT POSITIVE CHANGE IS POSSIBLE. PLACEMENT IS OPEN TO CHILDREN REGARDLESS OF POLITICAL BELIEFS, RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, NATIONAL ORIGIN, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, GENDER, HANDICAP/DISABILITY OR ANY OTHER NON MERIT FACTOR WHOSE NEEDS CANNOT BE MET THROUGH TRADITIONAL COMMUNITY RESOURCES. FACILITIES ARE "OPEN AND CHILDREN ARE NEVER LOCKED INTO A FACILITY.

RUTHERFORD HOUSE HAS FOUR HOMES THAT ARE OPERATED FOR DELINQUENT ADOLESCENTS. SHORT TERM AND LONG TERM CARE OF APPROXIMATELY FIFTY ADJUDICATED JUVENILES IS PROVIDED IN THESE HOMES. THESE INDIVIDUALS ARE USUALLY PLACED IN THE HOME BY JUVENILE COURT. SCHOOLING PROGRAMS FOR THE ADOLESCENTS IS PROVIDED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CADDO PARISH SCHOOL DISTRICT.
