AS AN AFFILIATE OF THE INTERNATIONAL READING ASSOCIATION (IRA), THE ARKANSAS READING ASSOCIATION INCLUDES APPROXIMATELY 2,000 MEMBERS INVOLVED IN 26 LOCAL READING COUNCILS ACROSS ARKANSAS WORKING TO FURTHER LITERACY GOALS. THE ORGANIZATION'S PRIMARY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE SPONSORING CONFERENCES AND MEETINGS TO IMPLEMENT THE PURPOSE OF THE COUNCIL, SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES OF LOCAL READING COUNCILS, STIMULATING AND PROMOTING LITERACY RESEARCH, DISSEMINATING KNOWLEDGE ON HOW TO RESOLVE READING PROBLEMS, RECOGNIZING AND HONORING OUTSTANDING EDUCATORS, AUTHORS, JOURNALISTS, AND OTHERS FOR SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO READING, AND FURTHERING ALL OTHER PURPOSES OF THE IRA.
