SPECIAL OLYMPICS GEORGIA, INC. ("SOGA")PROVIDES YEAR-ROUND SPORTS TRANING AND ATHLETIC COMPETITION FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABITIES OF ALL ABILITY LEVELS. PARTICIPATING IN SPORTS CONTRIBUTES TO THE PHYSICAL, SOCIAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE ATHLETE. THE ATHLETES GAIN CONFIDENCE AND BUILD POSITIVE SELF-IMAGE THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN SUCCESSFUL SPORTING EVENTS. ATHLETES ALSO GAIN SKILLS FOR EMPLOYMENT, LEARN INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS, FORM RELATIONSHIPS AND HELP OTHERS UNDERSTAND THEIR EXTRAORDINARY CAPABILITIES DESPITE HEALTH ISSUES THAT THEY EXPERIENCE DAILY. THE HEAD START PILOT PROGRAM WAS SUCCESSFUL WITH NOW 10 TOTAL HEAD START PROGRAMS TO SERVE YOUNG ATHLETES. CURRENT NUMBER OF YOUNG ATHLETES: 321.1,339 VOLUNTEERS AT 2020 INDOOR WINTER GAMES (EXCEEDED THE COUNT FROM THE PAST 4 YEARS). SOGA RECEIVED A $100,000.00 GRANT FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND SOI. 2019 STATE SUMMER GAMES HAD AN INCREASE OF 41% IN GENERAL VOLUNTEERS. 2020 STATE WINTER GAMES - EXCEEDED THE CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP GOAL OF $83,000 BY $2,948. SCREENED 135 ATHLETES AT HEALTHY SCREENING LOCATIONS AT THE 2020 STATE WINTER GAMES. LETR OVERALL TOTAL - $993,162 RAISED THROUGH EVENTS, DONATIONS, AND SPONSORSHIPS.
