Part 3 - Line 4a
THE FRIENDS OF PIMA COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY ARE A GROUP OF AVID LIBRARY ADVOCATES DEDICATED TO SUPPORTING AND ENHANCING LIBRARY SERVICES AND PROGRAMS. THE FRIENDS WERE FOUNDED IN 1969 TO RAISE FUNDS FOR SPECIAL AND INNOVATIVE LIBRARY PROGRAMS, EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES, WHICH ARE NOT PART OF THE NORMAL ANNUAL BUDGET. WE ACCOMPLISH THIS BY RAISING FUNDS THROUGH THE SALE OF BOOKS, MEMBERSHIPS, AND GRANTS. WE HAVE COMMUNITY BOOK SALES AT OUR BOOK BARN AT 2230 N. COUNTRY CLUB ROAD. WE ALSO SELL BOOKS ONLINE, AT EIGHTEEN RETAIL SPACES IN LIBRARIES, AND AT VARIOUS COMMUNITY AND NEIGHBORHOOD EVENTS, INCLUDING THE TUCSON FESTIVAL OF BOOKS.(CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)WITH A LARGE GROUP OF DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS, THE FRIENDS HAVE PROVIDED OVER $2.5 MILLION TO THE PIMA COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY OVER THE LAST TEN YEARS, MAKING POSSIBLE THE ACQUISITION AND/OR SPONSORSHIP OF THE FOLLOWING: SUMMER READING PROGRAM; TUCSON WRITER'S PROJECT; PROJECT LIFT; SOUTHWEST LITERATURE PROJECT; TECHNOLOGY FOR BRANCHES; VEHICLES FOR OUTREACH AND SERVICING THE BRANCHES; STORY TOWN AND NUESTRAS RAICES; AND HUNDREDS OF SMALLER AND ONE-TIME PROJECTS.DURING THE FISCAL YEAR 2020-2021, THE FRIENDS RELIED SOLELY ON ONLINE REVENUE TO CONTINUE OPERATIONS; THERE WERE NO IN-PERSON SALES. MOST LIBRARY BRANCHES WERE CLOSED OR PROVIDING LIMIT SERVICES SO OUR BOOK CARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC. LOOKING FOR WAYS TO EXPAND OUR REACH TO THE COMMUNITY, THE FRIENDS OPENED AN IN-HOUSE ONLINE STORE, FRIENDSBOOKBARN.COM, AND BEGAN SELLING LOWER-PRICED BOOKS THAT WOULD NORMALLY BE FOUND AT ONE OF OUR BOOK SALES. CUSTOMERS HAD THE OPTION TO PICK UP THEIR ORDER OR HAVE IT SHIPPED. THE FRIENDS ALSO EXPANDED INTO TO EBAY, LISTING ITEMS THAT WE COULDN'T SELL ON OTHER MARKETS SUCH AS DVDS, CDS, AND SETS. THE FRIENDS WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE THE REQUESTED AMOUNT OF $75,000 TO THE LIBRARY AS A RESULT OF OUR ONLINE SALES.
