FOSCOE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT WAS ORGANIZED IN MARCH 1971 TO PROTECT THE HOMES AND PROPERTY OF THE CITIZENS OF THE FOSCOE COMMUNITY. CURRENTLY THERE IS A FIRST RESPONDERS UNIT IN ADDITION TO FIREFIGHTING.

FOSCOE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT SERVES THE FOSCOE FIRE DISTRICT OF WATAUGA COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, BY PROVIDING 24 HOUR FIRST-RESPONDER UNITS, AS WELL AS FIREFIGHTERS AND EQUIPMENT. IT ALSO PARTICIPATES IN MUTUAL AID WITH OTHER AREA FIRE DEPARTMENTS IN WATAUGA AND AVERY COUNTIES AS NEEDED. ANSWERED CALLS DURING 2021 CONSISTED OF 213 FIRE/NON-MEDICAL CALLS & 125 EMERGENCY MEDICAL CALLS. MEDICAL CALLS WERE DECREASED BECAUSE OF COUNTY COVID-19 PROTOCOLS. VOLUNTEERS AND 2 PAID EMPLOYEES COMPLETED 4002 HOURS OF TRAININGS DURING 2021.
FOSCOE FIRE DEPARTMENT PARTICIPATES IN FIRE PREVENTION WEEK BY VISITING THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LOCATED WITHIN ITS DISTRICT. THE VOLUNTEERS SPEAK WITH THE CHILDREN REGARDING WAYS TO PREVENT FIRES, WAYS TO ESCAPE FIRES AND THE WAYS TO REPORT FIRES. THEY ALSO PROVIDE HAND OUTS AND TREATS. PROGRAM CONSISTS OF APPROXIMATELY 6 VOLUNTEER HOURS. DEPARTMENT PROVIDES CPR CERTIFICATIONS TO THE COMMUNITY. TWO PUBLIC CLASSES WERE HELD DURING 2021 CONSISTING OF 10 VOLUNTEER HOURS. EXPENSES ARE INCLUDED IN OTHER SECTIONS.
FOSCOE FIRE DEPARTMENT PROVIDES NUMERALS TO INDICATE 9-1-1 ADDRESSES OF THE PROPERTIES WITHIN ITS DISTRICT. COSTS AND HOURS ARE INCLUDED IN THE FIRST ACHIEVEMENT. 60 SETS OF NUMBERALS WERE DISTRIBUTED IN 2021.EXPENSES ARE INCLUDED IN OTHER SECTIONS.
FOSCOE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT PROVIDES AND INSTALLS SMOKE ALARMS IN THE HOMES OF RESIDENTS OF ITS DISTRICT. 52 ALARMS WERE INSTALLED DURING 2021 UTILIZING 52 HOURS OF MEMBERS LABOR. EXPENSES ARE INCLUDED IN THE TOTAL.
