PROGRAMS TO OVERCOME POVERTY AND INJUSTICE: OXFAM WORKS TO DISMANTLE UNEQUAL SYSTEMS THAT PERPETUATE POVERTY AND INJUSTICE. WE PROVIDE GRANTS AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, AND WORK WITH LOCAL PARTNERS TO BUILD FAIR ECONOMIES, PROTECT LAND AND WATER RIGHTS, CREATE EQUITABLE AND SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS, AND ADVANCE THE RIGHTS AND LEADERSHIP OF WOMEN AND GIRLS. FOR INSTANCE, OXFAM'S TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERSHIP FOR WOMEN'S RIGHTS PROGRAM HAS ENHANCED ACCESS OF HUNDREADS OF WOMEN LEADERS TO POLITICAL POSITIONS IN GHANA, KENYA, MENA, INDIA, EL SALVADOR, NEPAL, UGANDA, SOUTH AFRICA, MALAWI, ZAMBIA, ZIMBABWAE, MOZAMBIQUE AND VIETNAM. IN MALAWI, OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS FOR EXAMPLE, THE NUMBER OF WOMEN MPS INCREASED FROM 32 TO 45 OUT OF A PARLIAMENT OF 193, INCREASING FROM 16% TO 23% OF THE PARLIAMENT.
PUBLIC EDUCATION: IN THE PAST YEAR OXFAM COMMUNICATED TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT ISSUES SUCH AS ECONOMIC JUSTICE, CLIMATE ACTION, GENDER JUSTICE, AND HUMANITARIAN RESPONSES. SPECIFIC EXAMPLES OF THESE ISSUES INCLUDE THE ONGOING CONFLICT IN GAZA, WORKERS' RIGHTS, TAXING THE ULTRAWEALTHY, HOLDING WEALTHY POLLUTERS ACCOUNTABLE, AND GENDER EQUALITY.
CAMPAIGNING FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE: OXFAM CAMPAIGNS TO CHANGE UNJUST POLICIES THAT DEEPEN INEQUALITY AND KEEP PEOPLE TRAPPED IN POVERTY. WE ADDRESS GLOBAL INEQUALITIES BY INFLUENCING CORPORATE PRACTICES AND BEHAVIORS.THROUGH DECADES OF ENGAGEMENT WITH THE PRIVATE SECTOR, HAVE ACHIEVED NOTABLE RESULTS. LARGE COMPANIES SUCH AS CARGILL, THE COCA COLA COMPANY, AND MONDELEZ HAVE ADOPTED GENDER TOOLS, REDUCED INEQUALITY AND LAND GRABS, ADDRESSED CLIMATE ISSUES, AND HUMANIZED SUPPLY CHAINS. FOR EXAMPLE, CARGILL, THE LARGEST PRIVATELY HELD U.S. COMPANY, COMMITTED AFTER YEARS OF DIALOGUE TO SIGNIFICANT INITIATIVES FOR WOMEN'S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AND GENDER EQUALITY. THIS INCLUDES SIGNING ONTO THE U.N. WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT PRINCIPLES AND COLLABORATING WITH OXFAM ON POLICY AND IMPLEMENTATION IN ITS COCOA VALUE CHAIN.
SAVING LIVES-EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND PREPAREDNESS: OXFAM WORKS WITH LOCAL PARTNERS AND GOVERNMENTS TO SAVE LIVES IN EMERGENCIES. WE CONTINUED PROVIDING ASSISTANCE TO PEOPLE IN TURKEY, MOROCCO, PAKISTAN, AND THE HORN OF AFRICA, AS WELL AS UKRAINE AND NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES. NEARLY 870,000 PEOPLE IN UKRAINE AND 1.19 MILLION IN POLAND, MOLDOVA, AND ROMANIA HAVE RECEIVED ASSISTANCE. IN SOUTH SUDAN, OXFAM AND LOCAL PARTNERS ARE DELIVERING CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION RESOURCES TO 90,000 FAMILIES IN TRANSIT CAMPS. IN THE UPPER NILE REGION, OXFAM IS ADDRESSING THE EFFECTS OF FIVE YEARS OF FLOODING AND CONFLICT WITH SAFE WATER, CASH GRANTS, AND SEEDS, TOOLS, AND FISHING KITS.
