AWARDED ANNUALLY AND BY SCHOOL TERM, SCHOLARSHIPS ARE FUNDED BY DONATIONS FROM CORPORATIONS, FOUNDATIONS, INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS AS WELL AS PROCEEDS FROM THE ANNUAL MHCC FOUNDATION AUCTION. ONCE FUNDING IS AVAILABLE, SCHOLARSHIPS ARE ADVERTISED FOR STUDENT APPLICATION. A MHCC FINANCIAL AID REPRESENTATIVE AND THE MHCCD FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP AND GRANTS COMMITTEE MEMBERS REVIEW THE APPLICATIONS AND DETERMINE A RECIPIENT BASED UPON THE ESTABLISHED SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA. APPROXIMATELY $669,492 WAS AWARDED TO APPROXIMATELY 224 STUDENTS IN THE 2021-2022 FISCAL YEAR. THESE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS AID STUDENTS IN PAYING FOR TUITION, FEES, BOOKS, AND SUPPORT SERVICES.
PROGRAM FUNDS ARE SPECIFICALLY ESTABLISHED FOR USE IN A PARTICULAR DIVISION, DEPARTMENT OR PROGRAM. THESE FUNDS ARE USED FOR PROGRAM EQUIPMENT, STUDENT CONFERENCE FEES, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR INSTRUCTORS, AND PROJECTS AND ASSISTANCE TO BENEFIT STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES. DONORS MAY DESIGNATE THEIR GIFT TO ANY EXISTING PROGRAM FUND OR CAN INITIATE A FUND IF CIRCUMSTANCES WARRANT. FUNDING FOR PROGRAM SUPPORT TYPICALLY COMES FROM DONOR DESIGNATIONS AS WELL AS GRANTS FROM FOUNDATIONS OR ORGANIZATIONS. APPROXIMATELY $151,362 WAS FUNDED TO THE COLLEGE PROGRAM AREAS IN THE 2021-2022 FISCAL YEAR.
ANNUALLY THE COLLEGE DETERMINES PRIVATE FUNDING PRIORITIES AND PRESENTS A REQUEST TO THE MHCCD FOUNDATION FINANCE COMMITTEE FOR RECOMMENDATION TO THE FOUNDATION BOARD FOR APPROVAL. TYPICALLY, THE COLLEGE PRESIDENT MAKES THE REQUEST.
