Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
THE LIBERTY BELL SHRINE MUSEUM EDUCATES CHILDREN, YOUTH AND ADULTS ABOUT THE BRAVE AND PATRIOTIC PEOPLE WHO RISKED THEIR LIVES IN THE CAUSE OF LIBERTY; TO INSPIRE THEM TO EMULATE THOSE REVOLUTIONARY PATRIOTS; AND TO PROMOTE FAITH AND FREEDOM SYMBOLIZED BY THE LIBERTY BELL.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
PIP THE MOUSE PROGRAM - THIS ANNUAL PROGRAM DRAWS THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN, PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS TO SEE A HISTORIC HOLIDAY PUPPET SHOW, USING A FULLY RESTORED STAGE AND SOUNDTRACK FROM THE ORIGINAL 1962 PRODUCTION POPULARIZED BY THE HESS BROTHERS' DEPARTMENT STORE IN DOWNTOWN ALLENTOWN. WHILE VISITING FOR THE HOLIDAY SHOW, EVERYONE ALSO LEARNS THE HISTORY OF THE HIDING OF THE LIBERTY BELL ON SITE, AS WELL AS ABOUT PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH HOLIDAY TRADITIONS. PIP THE MOUSE THEN TRANSFORMS INTO PIP 'THE COLONIAL' MOUSE THE REST OF THE YEAR, INTRODUCING CHILDREN TO OUR MUSEUM AND ITS STORIES IN ANNUAL EVENTS LIKE THE FOURTH OF JULY BELL RINGING CEREMONY AS WELL AS SPECIAL EVENTS TO TEACH PIP'S PALS (CHILDREN UNDER 12) ABOUT LIFE IN THE COLONIAL ERA.
REMEMBERANCES: WAR CHANGES SOCIETIES, AND FEW WARS CHANGED THE WORLD AS MUCH AS WORLD WAR II. WITH FRONTS IN BOTH EUROPE AND THE PACIFIC, AMERICA SUPPORTED THE ALLIED NATIONS IN AN ATTEMPT TO END THE TOTALITARIAN REGIMES IN BOTH GERMANY AND ITALY, AS THEY JOINED WITH THE JAPANESE EMPIRE TO ENVELOPE THE WORLD DICTATORIAL CONTROL. IN 1945, WAR ON BOTH FRONTS CAME TO AN END WITH THE ALLIES AS THE VICTORS. COME SEE THE PATHS THAT LED THE WORLD TO ITS LAST GREAT WAR AS WE CELEBRATE THE 75THANNIVERSARY OF ITS END.
ILLUMINATION: THE HISTORY OF ELECTRICITY: WHERE WOULD WE BE IF HUMANS HAD NOT LEARNED TO HARNESS ELECTRICITY? IT IS NOT A WORLD MANY PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO LIVE IN. ELECTRICITY FUELS OUR LIVES. COMPUTERS ARE ESSENTIAL TO MOST OF THE WORK DONE IN ANY FIELD. WITHOUT ELECTRICITY, OUR COMPUTERS ARE RENDERED USELESS. COME TO THE LIBERTY BELL MUSEUM AND LEARN THE JOURNEY OF MANKINDS RELATIONSHIP WITH ELECTRICITY. FROM LIGHTNING RODS TO POWERING WHOLE CITIES, THIS EXHIBIT WILL TAKE YOU ON THE ROAD TO DISCOVERY ABOUT HOW HUMANITY HAS BEEN IMPROVED BY THIS NATURAL PHENOMENON.
