THE ALLENTOWN SPECIALTY HOSPITAL, INC. DBA GOOD SHEPHERD SPECIALTY HOSPITAL - ALLENTOWN ("GSSH") IS A 32-BED FACILITY PROVIDING ACUTE CARE FOR MEDICALLY STABLE BUT COMPLEX PATIENTS WHO REQUIRE LONG PERIODS OF HOSPITALIZATION. GSSH WAS THE FIRST LONG-TERM ACUTE CARE HOSPITAL IN THE LEHIGH VALLEY REGION AND WAS ONE OF THE FIRST IN THE COUNTRY TO OFFER PATIENT MONITORING BY TELE-INTENSIVISTS THROUGH STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY. GSSH'S PATIENTS REQUIRE EXTENSIVE NURSING CARE AND ARE OTHERWISE TOO ILL TO BE DISCHARGED TO HOME, A NURSING FACILITY, OR AN ACUTE REHABILITATION HOSPITAL. GSSH'S MAJOR PROGRAMS OF SERVICE ARE THE COMPLEX MEDICAL PROGRAM, TRANSITIONAL REHABILITATION PROGRAM AND THE PULMONARY VENTILATOR PROGRAM, WHICH TYPICALLY EXCEEDS NATIONAL VENT WEANING AVERAGES.
