THE MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO PROMOTE THE STUDY OF HISTORY THROUGH THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF RESEARCH, GOOD TEACHING, PUBLICATION AND THE EXCHANGE OF LEARNING AND IDEAS AMONG HISTORIANS. THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES A FORUM FOR EDUCATIONAL INTERACTION FOR STUDENTS, FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO STUDENTS, AND PREPARES A PROFESSIONAL HISTORICAL JOURNAL FOR ITS MEMBERS AND OTHERS TO ENHANCE HISTORICAL EDUCATION AND ACHIEVEMENT.

THE PUBLICATION OF THE "HISTORIAN" JOURNAL AND "THE NEWSLETTER" JOURNAL. THESE PUBLICATIONS DISSEMINATE HISTORICAL INFORMATION.THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO STUDENTS THAT ASSIST IN THE PRODUCTION OF THESE PERIODICALS. APPROXIMATE MEMBERSHIP IS 15,000 TO 20,000.THE ORGANIZATION RECEIVES ROYALTIES FROM PUBLISHERS AND FROM WEBSITES WITH RESPECT TO SALES OF THE "HISTORIAN" JOURNAL TO LIBRARIES AND OTHER NON-MEMBERS.
PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO COLLEGE STUDENTS & RESEARCHERS THAT SUBMIT PAPERS, TRANSCRIPTS, AND LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION. ELIGIBLE RECIPIENTS ARE MEMBERS OF THE ORGANIZATION. ENCOURAGES THE STUDY OF HISTORY BY PROVIDING RECOGNITION TO STUDENTS, GRADUATES, AND FACULTY FOR THEIR MEMBERSHIP IN THE ORGANIZATION THROUGH THE SALE OF SMALL ITEMS WITH THE ORGANIZATION'S LOGO TO SHOW MEMBERSHIP IN THE ORGANIZATION AT GRADUATION AND OTHER EVENTS.
THE ORGANIZATION HAS AN AGREEMENT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA ("USF") UNDER WHICH IT USES ON-CAMPUS FACILITIES FOR ITS OFFICES. THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS OF THE ORGANIZATION ARE ALSO PROFESSORS WITH THE HISTORY DEPARTMENT OF USF. THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS, AND TWO OTHER EMPLOYEES, ARE EMPLOYED BY BOTH USF AND THE SOCIETY.IN RETURN FOR THE USE OF THE OFFICE FACILITIES, AS WELL AS TO SUPPORT THE STUDY OF HISTORY, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES AN ANNUAL PAYMENT TO USF. THE AMOUNT OF THE PAYMENT TO USF IS BASED ON THE SALARY AND BENEFIT COSTS INCURRED BY USF WITH RESPECT TO THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS OF THE SOCIETY, AND THE OTHER EMPLOYEES IN COMMON, AS WELL AS POSTAGE AND TELEPHONE COST. THE TOTAL AMOUNT PAID TO USF FOR THE CURRENT YEAR IS $2,660. THE AMOUNT PAID TO USF IS DIVIDED INTO OCCUPANCY EXPENSE, GRANT EXPENSE, AND WAGES AND EMPLOYEE BENEFITS IN THIS RETURN.
