SINCE THE PROGRAM INCEPTION IN MAY 1995, TIC HAS ACHIEVED IMMEDIATE AND CONTINUOUS ACCOMPLISHMENTS SUCH AS: *ACTIVELY RECRUITED AND IMPACTED NEARLY 2500 YOUTH FROM NORTH, NORTHWEST, SOUTH, SOUTHWEST AND WEST PHILADELPHIA AND THE SURROUNDING COUNTIES OVER A 20 YEAR PERIOD *YOUTH GENERALLY PARTICIPATE FOR AN AVERAGE OF 2 YEARS, AND OVERWHELMINGLY PARTICIPATING YOUTH GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND PURSUE POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION AT LOCAL AND OUT OF STATE COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES AND LATER SOME HAVE OBTAINED ADVANCED DEGREES *YOUTH HAVE SUCCESSFULLY DESIGNED AND IMPLEMENTED PEER-TO-PEER ACTIVITIES CONTRIBUTED TO INCREASING SELF-ESTEEM WHICH INCLUDED: MENTORING OPPORTUNITIES CHALLENGING YOUTH TO DEVELOP LEADERSHIP SKILLS *YOUTH CREATED ON-GOING TEAM-BUILDING ACTIVITIES WHICH HELP PARTICIPANTS UNDERSTAND AND ENJOY WITH CONFIDENCE, THE ABILITY TO EFFECTIVELY TAKE ON APPROPRIATE ROLES SUCH AS, LEADER, PROJECT MANAGER, COORDINATOR AND OTHER VITAL ASPECTS OF GROUP DYNAMICS *PEER-TO-PEER MEDIATION TRAINING WITH WORKSHOP-LIKE ACTIVITIES. PARTICIPANTS ARE ENCOURAGE TO UTILIZE THESE SKILLS IN THEIR DAY TO DAY ENCOUNTERS, WHEN NECESSARY ADDITIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND TESTIMONY TO THE PROCESS IS EVIDENT AS GRADUATING YOUTH OFTEN COME BACK TO SERVE AS MENTORS. THIS YEAR, TEENAGERS IN CHARGE SECURED A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE GAP, INC. TO HOST ITS SNEAKERS AND SOCKS DRIVE FOR HOMELESS YOUTH. THE PROGRAM INITIATIVE WAS FEATURED ON 6 ABC NEWS, THE PHILADELPHIA TRIBUNE, AND LOCAL PAPER ON THE MAIN LINE. TEENAGERS IN CHARGE WILL LAUNCH A 2 WEEK FREE SUMMER PROGRAM IN AUGUST 2017 FOR YOUTH 10-18 YEARS OLD.
