THE 'ANNUAL OPEN' GRANT PROGRAM FUNDED PROJECTS AT UNIVERSITIES THAT WILL: 1.) DEVELOP A 3D IN VITRO MODEL OF A PEDIATRIC BRAINSTEM TUMOR, 2.) DEVELOP A 3D ORGANOID MODEL TO STUDY SPECIES-SPECIFIC RESPONSES TO ANTI-CANCER DRUGS, 3.) USE 3D BIOPRINTING AND BIOREACTOR GROWTH TO STUDY CELL MOVEMENT BETWEEN TISSUES DURING CANCER TREATMENT FOR CHRONIC LYMPOCYTIC LEUKEMIA, 4.) DEVELOP A "MINI-JOINT ON A CHIP" MODEL FOR OSTEOARTHRITIS RESEARCH, 5.) UTILIZE BIOREACTOR CULTURING TO REPLACE ANIMALS IN ORDER TO CULTIVATE A CRYPTOSPORIDIUM PARASITE FOR CHILDREN'S HEALTH RESEARCH, AND 6.) DEVELOP A COMPUTATIONAL MODEL FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RISK ASSESSMENT OF DIFFERENT SPECIES. TAKEN TOGETHER, THESE PROJECTS WILL ADVANCE ANIMAL WELFARE AND HUMAN HEALTH.ARDF ALSO SPONSORED SCIENTIFIC MEETINGS, AND EDUCATION AND OUTREACH ON ALTERNATIVE METHODS TO ACCELERATE UNDERSTANDING AND COLLABORATION.
