PEGASUS TRA PROVIDES EQUINE-ASSISTED ACTIVITIES AND THERAPIES TO INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES, DIAGNOSES, AND AT-RISK POPULATIONS. INCORPORATED AS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION IN 1982, THE PROGRAM PARTNERS WITH HORSES, AND THEIR UNIQUE THREE-DIMENSIONAL SWING GATE, TO PROMOTE IMPROVED PHYSICAL STRENGTH, EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING, INDEPENDENCE, ALONG OTHER KEY LIFE SKILLS. PEGASUS PROVIDES THERAPEUTIC EXERCISE IN VARIOUS FORMS, ALWAYS EMPHASIZING ABILITY MAINTAINING AN ENVIRONMENT OF RESPECT TRUST FOR OUR RIDERS, VOLUNTEERS, HORSES. THERAPEUTIC RIDING HAS MANY COMPONENTS, INCLUDING PHYSICAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL, RECREATIONAL, AS WELL AS EDUCATIONAL. OUR FACILITIES INCLUDE A STATE-OF-THE-ART INDOOR RIDING ARENA THAT PERMITS YEAR-ROUND OPERATION. WE CURRENTLY HAVE 15 THERAPY HORSES OF VARIED SIZES BREEDS. THE PROGRAM STAFF CONSISTS OF TWO FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES NINE PART-TIME EMPLOYEES. PEGASUS IS A PATH PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION OF
PEGASUS OPERATES AN AUTISM PROGRAM TO MEET THE GROWING NEED FOR SERVICES FOR CHILDREN DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS. MANY IN THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A SPECIAL CONNECTION BETWEEN HORSES AND CHILDREN WITH AUTISM BECAUSE BOTH INTERPRET THE WORLD IN PICTURES. AS THE BOND GROWS BETWEEN CHILD AND ANIMAL, PROGRESS SUCH AS IMPROVED COMMUNICATION, SOCIAL SKILLS, AND BEHAVIOR BECOME POSSIBLE IN MANY CASES. THIS PROGRAM ACCOMODATES 12 RIDERS PER WEEK.
PEGASUS THERAPEUTIC RIDING ACADEMY, INC. CONDUCTS A SIX WEEK SUMMER PROGRAM TO EXPOSE ADDITIONAL PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES TO EQUINE ASSISTED ACTIVITIES. IN 2021, THE PROGRAM INCLUDED GROUPS FROM MOSS REHABILITATION HOSPITAL, THE MOLLIE WOODS PROGRAM AT THE WOODS SCHOOL, THE PENNSYLVANIA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF, AND A SIX WEEK TRY ME PROGRAM FOR PEOPLE WHO WERE ON OUR WAITING LIST OR WHO WERE INTERESTED IN TRYING THE PROGRAM FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THIS PROGRAMMING PREVIOUSLY CREATED AN ADDITIONAL 35 LESSONS PER WEEK FOR NEW PARTICIPANTS DURING THE SIX WEEK PERIOD.
