THE VISITING NURSE ASSOCIATION'S (VNA) EXCLUSIVE MISSION IS TO PROVIDE HOME HEALTH AND HOSPICE SERVICES, WHICH INCLUDE NURSING CARE FOR PATIENTS WITH ACUTE AND CHRONIC ILLNESSES, VARIOUS THERAPY DISCIPLINES, SOCIAL WORK, AND HOME HEALTH AIDE SERVICES. ALL REVENUES AND CONTRIBUTIONS RECEIVED ARE UTILIZED TO FURTHER THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION. SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO THE UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED INDIGENT POPULATION OF THE PHILADELPHIA REGION. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O.)THE HOME HEALTH DIVISION OF THE VNA PROVIDED 66,635 VISITS TO 4,524 PATIENTS IN THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2021. THE HOSPICE DIVISION OF THE VNA PROVIDED CONTINUOUS, ROUTINE, RESPITE, AND GENERAL INPATIENT CARE DAYS TOTALING 49,761 DAYS TO 948 PATIENTS IN THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2021. VNA EXPERIENCED CONTINUED CENSUS AND REVENUE IMPACTS FROM THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND INDUSTRY-WIDE STAFFING SHORTAGES IMPACTING DIRECT CAREGIVER CAPACITY. IN TOTAL, VNA SERVICED 1,274 FEWER HOME HEALTH (22% DECREASE) AND 429 FEWER HOSPICE (31%) PATIENTS COMPARED TO THE PRIOR FISCAL YEAR. THIS RESULTED IN A 17% DECLINE IN PATIENT SERVICES REVENUE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2021.DESPITE THE CHALLENGES PRESENTED BY THE PANDEMIC AND INDUSTRY-WIDE STAFFING SHORTAGES, VNA MAINTAINED QUALITY SCORES WELL ABOVE NATIONAL/STATE AVERAGES FOR KEY CARE METRICS INCLUDING TIMELY INITIATION OF CARE, IMPROVEMENT IN FUNCTIONAL MEASURES, AND MEDICATION EDUCATION. VNA'S OUTCOMES FOR VOLUME OF ACUTE CARE HOSPITALIZATIONS AND EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT USE WERE BOTH BELOW INDUSTRY AVERAGES FOR THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA. IN CONJUNCTION WITH THESE QUALITY OUTCOMES, VNA'S HOME HEALTH DIVISION WAS UPGRADED TO A 4.5-STAR RATING IN THE FIVE-STAR QUALITY OF PATIENT CARE REPORTING MAINTAINED BY THE CENTERS FOR MEDICARE & MEDICAID SERVICES (CMS).
