CHRISTIAN CHURCHES UNITED OF THE TRI-COUNTY AREA IS A NON-DENOMINATIONAL ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES EMERGENCY HUMANITARIAN AID TO THOSE IN NEED IN DAUPHIN, CUMBERLAND AND PERRY COUNTIES.

HELP MINISTRIES PROVIDES HOMELESS ASSISTANCE FOR THE HOMELESS AND POTENTIALLY HOMELESS INCLUDING ASSISTANCE WITH BACK RENT TO PREVENT HOMELESSNESS; FUNDING OF SHELTER PLACEMENT FOR THOSE WHO ARE HOMELESS; AND ASSISTANCE WITH RENT AND SECURITY DEPOSITS TO RE-HOUSE HOMELESS HOUSEHOLDS. THESE SERVICES ARE ALL COMPLETED BY CASE MANAGEMENT AND APPROXIMATELY 1,640 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED DURING THE FISCAL YEAR.
OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDE: CCU NOW OPERATES PROJECT A.S.K. WHICH PROVIDES BASIC NEED SUPPORTS SUCH AS CLOTHING AND SNACKS TO STUDENTS IN THE WEST SHORE SCHOOL DISTRICT. APPROXIMATELY 30 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED DURING THE FISCAL YEAR. CCU PROVIDES FUNDING FOR CHAPLAIN SERVICES AT DAUPHIN COUNTY PRISON AND ALSO OVERSEES THE PRISON ACTION COMMITTEE, WHICH PROVIDES SPIRITUAL SUPPORT OPPORTUNITIES TO INMATES RETURNING TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY FROM THE DAUPHIN COUNTY WORK RELEASE CENTER AND OTHER HALFWAY HOUSES. THE SPIRITUAL SUPPORT FOR REENTRANTS WAS LIMITED DURING THE PANDEMIC, BUT APPROXIMATELY 25 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED IN THE SPRING OF 2022 AS THESE SERVICES STARTED UP AGAIN.
SUSQUEHANNA HARBOR SAFE HAVEN IS A HUD DESIGNATED SUPPORTIVE HOUSING FACILITY FOR CHRONICALLY HOMELESS MEN WITH A DIAGNOSED MENTAL ILLNESS. THE FACILITY PROVIDES SUPPORT IN A STABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR UP TO 25 MEN TO DEVELOP THE SKILLS AND FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE NECESSARY TO MOVE TO INDEPENDENT HOUSING. APPROXIMATELY 20 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED DURING THE FISCAL YEAR.
HELP MINISTRIES PROVIDES EMERGENCY SERVICES TO QUALIFIED APPLICANTS, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, EMERGENCY TRAVEL, ESSENTIAL MEDICATIONS, AND UTILITY ASSISTANCE. DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, HELP MINISTRIES ALSO ADMINISTERED A RENT RELIEF PROGRAM THAT PROVIDED RENT ASSISTANCE FOR HOUSEHOLDS DEALING WITH INCOME LOSS DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. APPROXIMATELY 1,100 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED DURING THE FISCAL YEAR.
