THE BUILDING LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZING CAPACITY (BLOC) INITIATIVE IS A COHORT-BASED CAPACITY BUILDING INITIATIVE DESIGNED TO BUILD CONNECTICUT'S RESEARCH, ANALYSIS, AND ORGANIZING CAPACITY OF YOUTH-LED SOCIAL CHANGE GROUPS. THE BLOC INITIATIVE SEEKS TO INCREASE THE MEANINGFUL INCLUSION OF YOUTH IN LEADERSHIP OR DECISION-MAKING ROLES IN THEIR ORGANIZATIONS, STRENGTHEN ORGANIZATIONS' ABILITY TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT EFFECTIVE YOUTH ORGANIZING CAMPAIGNS THAT LEAD TO CONCRETE AND LASTING CHANGE AROUND THE ISSUES THAT YOUTH HAVE IDENTIFIED; AND BUILD COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS AND PARTNERSHIPS AMONG ORGANIZATIONS COMMITTED TO BUILDING A MOVEMENT FOR YOUTH-LED SOCIAL CHANGE IN CONNECTICUT. PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATIONS ENGAGE IN MONTHLY WORKSHOPS, ATTEND BIANNUAL RETREATS, AND RECEIVE TARGETED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE. THE INITIATIVE IS CO-DESIGNED WITH ALUMNI OF THE PROGRAM THAT WORK IN THE FIELD OF YOUTH-LED SOCIAL CHANGE.
THE PERRIN FAMILY FOUNDATION OFFERS CAPACITY-BUILDING CONSULTANTS, TRAINING AND WORKSHOPS, AND CONVENINGS TO OUR GRANTEE PARTNERS, YOUTH PRACTITIONERS, AND COMMUNITY GROUPS ACROSS THE STATE OF CT TO DEEPEN THE SECTOR'S ABILITY TO SUPPORT YOUNG PEOPLE AS LEADERS OF SOCIAL CHANGE. IN 2021, THIS ALSO INCLUDED PUBLICATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS WORK ASSOCIATED WITH THE GROWTH OF YOUTH LED SOCIAL CHANGE FIELD AND A PUBLICATION ABOUT YOUTH VOICES ON COVID19 AND SYSTEMIC RACISM.
THE CRITICALLY CONSCIOUS YOUTH DEVELOPMENT (CCYD) GRANT PROGRAM IS A COHORT-BASED CAPACITY-BUILDING INITIATIVE FOCUSED ON DEVELOPING THE SKILLS OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT STAFF AND THEIR ABILITY TO DEVELOP PROGRAMMING CENTERED AROUND IDENTITY, LIVED EXPERIENCE, AND POLITICAL EDUCATION AS CORE COMPETENCIES. PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATIONS PARTICIPATE IN QUARTERLY TRAINING AND AN ANNUAL RETREAT. THE CAPACITY-BUILDING FELLOWS AND COACHES ALSO PROVIDE ONGOING CURRICULAR AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE.
