DIAE MISSION IS TO INSPIRE THE ARTIST WITHIN EACH STUDENT THROUGH THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS IN THE CLASSROOM AND BEYOND BY ENGAGING ALL ART FORMS WITH CROSS DISCIPLINARY LEARNING, CONNECTING PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS WITH STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS, AND, OFFERING PROGRAMS THAT FOSTER DISCOVERY, LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM, AND UNDERSTANDING OF ONE'S PLACE IN THE WORLD AROUND THEM.

DIAE STATEMENT OF PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS:DURING THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR, DIAE DELIVERED A TOTAL OF 52 PROGRAMS ACROSS OUR THREE PROGRAM AREAS: K-12 ARTIST IN RESIDENCIES, DELAWARE WOLF TRAP EARLY LEARNING THROUGH THE ARTS, AND TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. DIAE RECEIVES CRITICAL SUPPORT FROM THE STATE OF DELAWARE THROUGH GRANT-IN-AID, THE DELAWARE DIVISION OF THE ARTS, CORPORATIONS, FOUNDATIONS, AND INDIVIDUAL DONORS. WE OPERATE IN PUBLIC, CHARTER, AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS IN ALL THREE COUNTIES AS WELL AS A SMALL NUMBER OF COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS THAT SERVE YOUTH.DELAWARE WOLF TRAP (DWT) DELAWARE WOLF TRAP EARLY LEARNING THROUGH THE ARTS (DWT) BRINGS WOLF TRAP TRAINED TEACHING ARTISTS (TA) INTO THE EARLY CHILDHOOD CLASSROOM TO PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN ARTS INTEGRATION FOR TEACHERS IN THE CLASSROOM WITH THEIR STUDENTS AGES 3-5. THE TEACHER SELECTS A MATH OR LITERACY FOCUS AND A SPECIFIC ART FORM (MUSIC, DANCE, OR DRAMA). THE RESIDENCIES ARE 16-SESSIONS. THEY TEACH ARTS-INTEGRATED STRATEGIES TO SUPPORT FOUNDATIONAL LEARNING IN LITERACY AND MATH FOR THE STUDENTS. DWT IS ONE OF 27 NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL AFFILIATES OF THE WOLF TRAP INSTITUTE FOR EARLY LEARNING THROUGH THE ARTS BASED IN VIENNA, VA. WE ARE THE ONLY PROVIDER OF THIS PROGRAM IN THE STATE. WE HAVE ADMINISTERED THIS PROGRAM FOR 26 YEARS.ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR 2022 - 2023, DIAE DELIVERED DELAWARE WOLF TRAP RESIDENCIES TO 22 CLASSROOMS IN ALL THREE COUNTIES. OUR FY23 PARTNERS WERE LAKE FOREST, CHRISTINA, AND RED CLAY SCHOOL DISTRICTS, GATEWAY CHARTER, PRIMEROS PASOS, CHILDREN AND FAMILIES FIRST, AND NEW CASTLE COUNTY HEAD START. NEARLY ALL (OVER 90%) OF PROGRAMS REACHED LOW-INCOME STUDENTS AND THE TEACHERS SERVING THEM. OVER HALF (54%) REACHED STUDENTS FROM "MAJORITY-MINORITY" COMMUNITIES.K-12 ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCY PROGRAMDIAE'S K-12 ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM IS MODELED AFTER THE LINCOLN CENTER INSTITUTE FOR ARTS IN EDUCATION THAT BRINGS PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS AND PERFORMANCE GROUPS INTO DELAWARE SCHOOLS. THE PARTNER CLASSROOM TEACHER SELECTS A CULMINATING FOCUSED ART EXPERIENCE, SUCH AS A LIVE PERFORMANCE OR EXHIBITION. THE TEACHING ARTIST WORKS WITH THE STUDENTS AND TEACHER TO EXPLORE AN ART FORM IN A 3-DAY RESIDENCY THAT HELPS THEM UNDERSTAND AND PRACTICE THE CREATIVE DECISION MAKING OF THE ARTISTS IN THE FOCUSED ART EXPERIENCE. ALL RESIDENCIES ARE CUSTOMIZED TO THE TEACHER'S CURRICULUM AND INTEGRATED INTO THE SCHOOL DAY TO REACH THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF STUDENTS. RESIDENCIES ADDRESS DELAWARE STANDARDS FOR THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS. STUDENTS EXPLORE, CREATE, AND REFLECT ON THE ART FORM.ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR 2022 - 2023: DIAE CONDUCTED 25 K-12 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAMS IN NEW CASTLE AND KENT COUNTIES. SCHOOL PARTNERS INCLUDED SCHOOLS IN RED CLAY, CAPITAL, BRANDYWINE, AND CAESAR RODNEY SCHOOL DISTRICTS AS WELL AS THE FOLLOWING CHARTERS, ASPIRA DE LAS AMERICAS, KUUMBA, AND GATEWAY. TWO PROGRAMS WERE ALSO DELIVERED AT THE POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE. 87% OF PROGRAMS SERVED SCHOOLS WITH OVER A QUARTER LOW-INCOME STUDENTS. 83% OF PROGRAMS SERVED SCHOOLS WITH OVER A QUARTER MINORITY STUDENTS.TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMDIAE DELIVERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS IN ARTS-INTEGRATION, DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC ARTS EDUCATION, AND THE IMPLEMENTATION OF DELAWARE'S H.B. 198. TEACHER PD IS IN ALIGNMENT WITH DELAWARE STANDARDS FOR THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS AND IS LED BY THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR AND TEACHING ARTISTS.ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR 2022-2023, DIAE LED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS AT GATEWAY, GREAT OAKS, AND KUUMBA CHARTER SCHOOLS AND FOR UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE'S MONTESSORI TEACHER TRAINING.THE ELLEN R. HERSH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND WAS CREATED IN 2019 WITH SEED MONEY FROM HERBERT H. HERSH, HUSBAND OF ELLEN R. HERSH AND FATHER OF NANCI HERSH, FORMER DIAE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR.
