PER SENATE BILL NUMBER 178, PASSED MARCH 10, 2007; THE CITY OF BECKLEY AND RALEIGH COUNTY COMMISSION ISSUE CHECKS FROM THE 6% HOTEL/MOTEL TAX THAT IS GENERATED. THE HOTEL/MOTEL TAX FROM THE COUNTY AND CITY ARE DEPOSITED INTO THE BECKLEY-RALEIGH COUNTY ACCOUNT ON A MONTHLY BASIS. 90% OF THIS MONEY GOES TO THE SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU WHICH ALSO PROMOTES TOURISM IN SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA. BUT, 10% OF THIS MONEY IS ALLOCATED TO PROMOTE TOURISM IN RALEIGH COUNTY AND THE CITY OF BECKLEY EXCLUSIVELY.
