THE EXEMPT PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE CARING SERVICE TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND WELL BEING OF PATIENTS (AND THEIR FAMILIES, VISITORS, AND HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES) AT SWEDISH MEDICAL CENTER, AS WELL AS PROVIDING SERVICES TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF THE COMMUNITY.

ADULT VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE OVER 29,500 HOURS OF SUPPORT YEARLY TO SWEDISH MEDICAL CENTER IN VARIOUS VOLUNTEER POSITIONS WITHIN THE HOSPITAL (PATIENT VISITATION, SURGERY WAITING ROOMS, CRITICAL/INTENSIVE CARE WAITING ROOM, INFORMATION DESKS, GIFT SHOP, MULTI-TRAMA SUPPORT, LABOR AND DELIVERY, EMERGENCY ROOM ASSISTANCE AND OTHER PATIENT AREAS OF THE HOSPITAL). THE SECOND CHANCE SHOPPE (THRIFT STORE) IS ALSO STAFFED BY THE VOLUNTEERS.
THE JUNIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IS A COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS 14-18 AND RUNS YEAR ROUND PROVIDING OVER 4,500 HOURS YEARLY AT SWEDISH MEDICAL CENTER FACILITIES. THESE STUDENTS BENEFIT BY BEING IN THE HOSPITAL SETTING VIEWING OCCUPATIONS WITHIN THE HEALTH CARE ENVIRONMENT BUT ALSO BEING OF VALUABLE SERVICE TO THE HOSPITAL BY VOLUNTEERING IN MANY PATIENT AREAS OF THE HOSPITAL AND GIFT SHOP.
IN ADDITION TO CONTRIBUTING VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE TO SWEDISH MEDICAL CENTER, THE AUXILIARY PROVIDES NUMEROUS CHARITABLE PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES THAT PERTAIN TO THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE HEALTH OF THE COMMUNITY. SOME EXAMPLES OF THESE ARE CHILDREN'S HEALTH EDUCATION DAYS, DOCTORS CARE, DENVER ROCKY MOUNTAIN MENDED HEARTS, ASSISTANCE WITH GRIEF, PET THERAPY, EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS, FUNDING OF VARIOUS COLORADO NEUROLOGICAL INSTITUTE PROGRAMS AND THE AUXILIARY'S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS.
