CLEFWORKS IS A MUSIC OUTREACH PROGRAM DESIGNED TO PROMOTE THE EDUCATION AND ENJOYMENT OF CHAMBER MUSIC THROUGH A SERIES OF PERFORMANCES IN THE MONTGOMERY AREA. CLEFWORKS 2020-21 SEASON LOOKED DIFFERENT FROM PREVIOUS SEASONS AS WE ADJUSTED TO THE REALITY OF A GLOBAL PANDEMIC THAT IMPACTED THE ARTS SECTOR QUITE HEAVILY. DESPITE CHALLENGES, WE CONTINUED TO FOSTER THE APPRECIATION OF CHAMBER MUSIC, HIRED CLASSICALLY TRAINED MUSICIANS, HOSTED CONCERTS, AND CELEBRATED A CULTURE OF MUSIC APPRECIATION IN MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA. TO REACH STUDENTS VIRTALLY, WE HIRED PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS TO PRODUCE EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS TO SHARE WITH STUDENTS. "WHAT IS A STRING QUARTET?- AND "WHAT IS A HARPSICHORD?" ARE FEATURED ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SHARED WITH AREA TEACHERS. IN OCTOBER, WE SERVED AS THE ALABAMA PRESENTER FOR A PROGRAM CALLED "BRASS ACROSS AMERICA." THIS 'LIVE-VIRTUAL' CONCERT WAS STREAMED NATIONWIDE IN REAL TIME FOR AUDIENCES IN ALL 50 STATES. CONTINUING OUR SUPPORT FOR NEW MUSIC, WE HELD TWO COMPOSITION COMPETITIONS, ONE FOR STRING QUARTET AND ONE FOR CLASSICAL GUITAR. THE SAMFORD UNIVERSITY QUARTET PERFORMED THE WORLD PREMIERE OF NAN YI'S "FENWAY PARK." KEVIN MANDERVILLE PREMIERED THE WINNING GUITAR COMPOSITION AT OUR CLASSICAL GUITAR CONCERT. WE ALSO SHARED A NEW COMPOSITION BY MASON BYNES IN HONOR OF ROSA PARKS AT THE 65TH ANNIVERSARY OF HER ARREST AND THE SUBSEQUENT BUS BOYCOTT. THE WESTERLIES, A BRASS QUARTET, PRODUCED A VIDEO PRESENTATION FOR THE SCALED BACK MEMORIAL. SPRING BROUGHT A RETURN TO IN PERSON EVENTS - OUTDOOR AT OUR LOCAL SHAKESPEARE THEATER. FOR THESE OUTREACH EVENTS, WE HIRED OVER 25 ALABAMA MUSICIANS AND PARTNERED WITH AREA COLLEGES AND YOUTH MUSIC PROGRAMS TO GIVE EAGER MUSICIANS A CHANCE TO PERFORM IN FRONT OF AUDIENCES AGAIN WE HOSTED 11 EVENTS IN APRIL TO RETURN MUSIC TO MONTGOMERY
