Part 3
USGBC LOUISIANA HAS COMPREHENSIVE STATEWIDE GREEN SCHOOLS INITIATIVE THAT REACHED OVER 15,000 STUDENTS IN 2015 THROUGH THREE PRIMARY PROGRAMS-THE GREEN SCHOOLS CHALLENGE, GREEN APPLE DAYS OF SERVICE, AND GREEN SCHOOLS TEACHER EDUCATION. OVER 85 SCHOOLS AND OVER 260 TEACHERS ARE ENGAGED IN HANDS-ON PROJECTS TO GREEN THEIR SCHOOL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS. OVER 30 CHAPTER MEMBERS WORKING IN THE GREEN BUILDING INDUSTRY SERVED AS VOLUNTEER MENTORS TO THESE SCHOOLS, HELPING THEM TO LOWER THEIR SCHOOL'S ENERGY USAGE, ESTABLISH SCHOOL GARDENS, AND LEARN MORE ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AND LONG TERM CO2 EMISSION REDUCTION. A STUDENT POSTER CONTEST ENCOURAGED SCHOOLS TO ENGAGE A VARIETY OF THEIR CLASSES IN THE GREEN SCHOOL MOVEMENT. IN THE FALL OF 2015, OVER $150,000 WORTH OF SCHOOL FURNITURE AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES WERE DONATED TO THE CHAPTER WHICH WAS DISTRIBUTED TO THE CHALLENGE PROGRAM SCHOOLS. GREEN APPLE DAYS OF SERVICE ARE ADDITIONAL EVENTS THAT PARTNER COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS WITH SCHOOLS IN NEED. THE CHAPTER ALSO PROVIDED EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CHALLENGE TEACHERS TO EARN GREEN CLASSROOM PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION THROUGH THE USGBC CENTER FOR GREEN SCHOOLS.
IN 2015, USGBC LOUISIANA PROVIDED 244 HOURS OF PROGRAMMING, INCLUDING 137 HOURS OF CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALING MAINTENANCE INCLUDING LEED (LEADERSHIP IN ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN) CREDENTIALS, AIA (AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS), AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS. THE EDUCATION PROGRAMMING PROMOTES BETTER BUILDING PRACTICES, AND THE CREATION OF HEALTHIER, HIGHER PERFORMING BUILDINGS, NEIGHBORHOODS, AND SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES. THE CHAPTER HOSTED A MONTHLY RADIO
2014 GREENBUILD CONFERENCE AND LEGACY PROJECT. USGBC LOUISIANA HOSTED THE WORLD'S LARGEST GREEN BUILDING CONFERENCE. THIS EFFORT OFFERED OVER 2,000 HOURS OF EDUCATION, A GREEN PRODUCT EXPO, AND A LASTING GIFT OF THE LEGACY PROJECT TO THE CENTER FOR SUSTAINABLE ENGAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT IN NEW ORLEANS' LOWER NINTH WARD. CSED'S ENERGY EFFICIENCY EDUCATIONAL CENTER IS A 130 YEAR OLD BARGE BOARD HOUSE COMPLETELY REMODELED INTO A COMMUNITY HUB FOR TEACHING ENERGY EFFICIENCY, ENGAGING LOCAL RESIDENTS
