HHF IS A GRASSROOTS, SKATEBOARD COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES SUPPORT, OPPORTUNITY, AND ADVOCACY FOR SKATEBOARDERS IN NYC SO THEY CAN REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL AS SKATEBOARDERS AND AS PEOPLE. THE MISSION IS TO USE SKATEBOARDING AS A VEHICLE TO PROVIDE UNDER-SERVED YOUTH WITH VALUABLE LIFE EXPERIENCES THAT NURTURE INDIVIDUAL CREATIVITY, RESOURCEFULNESS, AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF LIFE SKILLS.

IN 2021 WE SHIFTED TO AN OUTREACH-BASED MODEL OF OUR LEGACY PROGRAM. WE LAUNCHED INFORMAL SKATE SESSIONS FOR THE LEGACY PROGRAM IN APRIL AND SERVED 135 SKATERS ACROSS 25 SKATE PARKS IN 4 BOROUGHS WITH 6 COACHES PROVIDING MORE THAN 650 WEEKLY INFORMAL SKATE SESSIONS (6 COACHES, 2-4 TIMES/WEEK EACH, FOR 38 WEEKS) AT SKATE PARKS THROUGHOUT THE CITY, INCLUDING 30 INFORMAL SKATE SESSIONS AND 3 SKATE EVENTS FOR WOMEN/QUEER/TRANS SKATERS OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR. OUR COACHES AND DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS WORKED WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS/COLLECTIVES TO PRODUCE 18 SKATE EVENTS SERVING HUNDREDS OF SKATERS IN 3 BOROUGHS AND PATERSON NJ FROM JUNE THROUGH NOVEMBER. OUR SOCIAL WORKER AND OUTSIDE TRAINERS HAVE PROVIDED 12 TRAINING SESSIONS FOR COACHES AND VISTAS.
VISTA PROGRAM: THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH UP2US SPORTS AND AMERICORPS, WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE 2 FULL-TIME YEAR-ROUND AND 2 FULL-TIME SUMMER POSITIONS IN THE VOLUNTEERS IN SERVICE TO AMERICA PROGRAM FOR LOCAL NYC SKATERS. EACH SKATER RECEIVED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND MENTORSHIP AND WORKED ON A CAPACITY-BUILDING PROJECT FOR HHF OVER THE COURSE OF THEIR SERVICE TERM FOCUSED ON THE DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS, CONTENT DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING, OR COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH.
BROWNSVILLE SKATE PROJECT: WE LAUNCHED THE BROWNSVILLE SKATE PROJECT, WHICH PROVIDED 3-4 SKATE CLINICS/WEEK FOR UP TO 25 CHILDREN AGED 5-17 FROM JULY THROUGH EARLY DECEMBER.
