PRESERVE RHODE ISLAND FARMLAND AND OUR AGRICULTURAL AND CULINARY KNOWLEDGE. BUILD HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES. INCREASE ACCESS TO FRESHER, TASTIER FOOD. IMPROVE IMPACT OF FOOD PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION ON OUR ENVIRONMENT. STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY-BASED BUSINESSES.

Part 3 - Line 4a

HARVEST KITCHEN-PART OF FARM FRESH'S INTIATIVE TO INCREASE THE VARIETY OF VALUE-ADDED LOCAL FOOOD PRODUCTS AVAILABLE AND CREATE A COMMUNITY-BASED FOOD SYSTEM. THE PROGRAM ENGAGES YOUTHS FROM THE JOB-READINESS TRAINING PROGRAM WITHIN THE DIVISION OF JUVENILE CORRECTIONS TO CREATE A LINE OF HIGH-QUALITY PRESERVED FOODS USING INGREDIENTS SOURCED FROM LOCAL FARMERS AT A CERTIFIED KITCHEN. PRODUCTS MADE IN HARVEST KITCHEN ARE SOLD AT LOCAL STORES, FARMERS MARKETS, AND TO MARKET MOBILE CUSTOMERS. THE PROGRAM TEACHES YOUTHS MULTIPLE ASPECTS OF CULINARY TECHNIQUE AND JOB SKILLS.


FARM FRESH'S OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDE COMMUNICITY EDUCATION, OPERATING THE FOOD HUB CAMPUS IN PROVIDENCE, FARMER MARKETS ACROSS RHODE ISLAND, AND FOOD SYSTEM MODELING.


FOOD ACCESS-PART OF FARM FRESH'S MISSION TO INCREASE ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOODS, THE PROGRAM IS PRIMARILY FUNDED THROUGH GRANT AWARDS TO SUBSIDIZE CONSUMER PURCHASES AT FARMER MARKETS. THE GUSNIP GRANT AWARD HAS INCREASED THE SIZE AND VISIBILITY OF THE PROGRAM AS IT SEEKS TO PROMOTE HEALTHY EATING.


MARKET MOBILE-A FARM TO BUSINESS DELIVERY SERVICE THAT SEEKS TO STRENGTHEN THE TIES OF BUSINESS AND THE LOCAL FOOD SYSTEM. THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO REBUILD A MORE EFFICIENT LOCAL FOOD DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM THAT HELPS SAVES FARMERS AND BUYERS BOTH TIME AND MONEY. THE PROGRAM ALSO SEEKS TO PROVIDE A PLATFORM FOR DISTRIBUTION OF QUALITY FRESH FOODS INTO UNDERSERVED RHODE ISLAND COMMUNITIES.
