THE PORT ROYAL SOUND FOUNDATION'S MARITIME CENTER IS A MUSEUM, EDUCATIONAL CENTER, PUBLIC RESOURCE, AND FUTURE RESEARCH FACILITY DEDICATED TO PRESERVING THE MOST IMPORTANT NATURAL RESOURCE IN BEAUFORT COUNTY: THE PORT ROYAL SOUND. IT IS FILLED WITH IMPRESSIVE EXHIBITS - INCLUDING LIVE ANIMALS - THAT PROVIDE AN EDUCATIONAL TOUR OF THE ECOLOGICAL, HISTORICAL, CULTURAL, ARTISTIC, AND RECREATIONAL ASPECTS OF THE SOUND. ADMISSION TO THE MARITIME CENTER IS FREE, BECAUSE IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ALL PEOPLE HAVE ACCESS TO LEARN ABOUT THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PORT ROYAL SOUND AND HOW TO PROTECT IT.
