TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN SANDUSKY COUNTY BY USING FUNDS ENTRUSTED TO ITS STEWARDSHIP BY INDIVIDUALS, CORPORATIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS OF VARIOUS MEANS TO ADDRESS COMMUNITY NEEDS AND OPPORTUNITIES.

THE REACH CAREER EDUCATION PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO INTRODUCE AREA UPPER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS TO THE WORLD OF WORK BY PROVIDING CONSULTANTS FROM BUSINESS PARTNER CHAMBER MEMBERS WHO VISIT SCHOOLS ON A MONTHLY BASIS TO DISCUSS THE TYPES OF JOBS AVAILABLE AT THEIR COMPANIES AND TO PRESENT LESSONS DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO DEVELOP LIFE SKILLS THAT WILL ASSIST IN PREPARING THEM TO JOIN THE WORKFORCE IN THE FUTURE. CONSULTANTS UTILIZE A CURRICULUM BOOK DEVELOPED BY THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY - MARION TO PRESENT A SERIES OF LESSONS, REINFORCED BY HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES THAT INCLUDE A VISIT TO THE BUSINESS PARTNERS PLACE OF BUSINESS. ANNUALLY, THIS PROGRAM BENEFITS OVER 1,000 STUDENTS IN 15 13 SCHOOLS.
SAFETY DAY IS A FREE EVENT FOR CHILDREN AGES 8 TO 13 LIVING IN SANDUSKY COUNTY. THIS IS A FUN-FILLED MORNING OF LEARNING ABOUT VARIOUS TYPES OF SAFETY ON THE FARM. THE CHAMBERS AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE COORDINATES THIS ANNUAL PROGRESSIVE AGRICULTURE SAFETY DAY. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE TOPICS SUCH AS TRACTOR SAFETY, BIKE SAFETY, CPR AND AED TRAINING, FIRE EXTINGUISHER TRAINING, SHOOTING SPORTS SAFETY, AND WILDLIFE SAFETY. CHILDREN ALSO RECEIVE A LUNCH, A T-SHIRT AND TAKE HOME A GOODY BAG.
THE CHAMBER FOUNDATION GIVES OUT A YEARLY SCHOLARSHIPS TO A SANDUSKY COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR. THE RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION ASSISTS IN SELECTING OF THE RECIPIENT.
