IN PALM BEACH COUNTY (FLORIDA): HANDS TOGETHER FOR HAITIANS STRIVES TO ASSIST THE HAITIAN IMMIGRANT POPULATION WITH THE TRANSITION FROM LIVING IN THEIR NATIVE COUNTRY TO LIVING IN THE U.S. THIS GOAL ADDRESSES A MULTITUDE OF ISSUES INCLUDING: EDUCATION, HEALTH CARE, LANGUAGE AND CULTURAL BARRIERS, ACCESS TO SOCIAL RESOURCES, GUIDANCE AND MEETING DAILY NEEDS SUCH AS FOOD NEEDS. IN HAITI: HANDS TOGETHER FOR HAITIANS STRIVES TO BUILD SUSTAINABLE PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT THOSE WHO ARE SUFFERING FROM A LACK OF ADEQUATE NUTRITION, HEALTH CARE, EDUCATION,EMPLOYMENT AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS. U.S. OUTREACH AND EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT: HANDS TOGETHER FOR HAITIANS (HTH) PROVIDED FUNDS FOR BASIC NEEDS SUCH AS FOOD, TRANSPORTATION, RENT ASSISTANCE, UTILITY ASSISTANCE, HOUSING, HOLIDAY GIFTS, AND FOOD GIFT CARDS. HTH PROVIDED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AS WELL AS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, WHICH INCLUDED ADULT COMPUTER / CAREER ADVANCEMENT CLASSES, ADULT BASIC LITERACY CLASSES, FINANCIAL LITERACY PRESENTATIONS, A CHILDREN'S ENRICHMENT PROGRAM, AND A HEALTH LITERACY PROGRAM.
HAITI OUTREACH AND EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT: HANDS TOGETHER FOR HAITIANS PROVIDED A TOTAL OF 26,570, DISTRIBUTED TO APPROXIMATELY 3,188 INDIVIDUALS OVER THE PAST YEAR. THESE FUNDS SUPPORTED MOSTLY FOOD NEEDS, BUT ALSO HOUSING COSTS, TRANSPORTATION, MEDICINE, HEALTH CARE, AND CLOTHING. HTH PROVIDED 28,268 FOR AN AGRICULTURAL PROJECT CALLED BON GRENN, 32,669 FOR THE NOTRE DAME DU FATIMA GRADE SCHOOL IN JEANDENIS, 21,000 FOR THE BOUCAN CARRE SACRED HEART GRADE SCHOOL, AND 1,000 FOR HEALTH EDUCATION.
FOOD PANTRY: THE FOOD PANTRY PROVIDED BOXES OF NUTRITIOUS FOOD, INCLUDING MEATS, VEGETABLES, FRUITS, MILK, CHEESE, EGGS, AND CANNED/DRIED GOODS. FUNDS PROVIDE GAS/TIME STIPENDS TO A TEAM OF INDIVIDUALS WHO PICK UP THE FOOD FROM VARIOUS LOCATIONS, UNLOAD THE FOOD AT THE HTH OFFICE, REFRIGERATE FOOD AS NEEDED, REPACK BOXES FOR DISTRIBUTION, AND DISTRIBUTE THE FOOD. FUNDS IN THIS CATEGORY ALSO PURCHASED SUPPLIES FOR THE FOOD PANTRY, SUCH AS CLEANING SUPPLIES, HAND SANITIZER, FOOD, AND STORAGE ITEMS.
