PA CONNECTING COMMUNITIES IS AN ORGANIZATION DESIGNED TO PROVIDE SERVICES TO AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY DISABLED PERSONS AND ELDERLY PERSONS IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA. THE ORGANIZATION'S GOAL IS TO GIVE THESE PERSONS TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCES THEY NEED TO FUNCTION AT SCHOOL, WORK, AND IN THE GENERAL COMMUNITY, AND TO IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE. PA CONNECTING COMMUNITIES WILL ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL BY PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL CLASSES, SOCIAL AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, HEALTH AND FITNESS CLASSES AND CULTURAL OPPORTUNITIES. MANY PERSONS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS EXPERIENCE FAILURE AT SCHOOL, WORK, OR WITHIN THE COMMUNITY BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT ACQUIRED THE BASIC LIFE SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL. THE ORGANIZATION HOLDS MONTHLY DANCES/SPECIAL EVENTS FOR PERSONS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS TO PROMOTE SOCIALIZATION AND INCLUSION IN THE COMMUNITY.
THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES A HOME AND COMMUNITY HABILITATION PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES COMPANIONS TO INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES AND SPECIAL NEEDS.
