IN 2021, BELLEVUE FARMERS MARKET (BFM) CONTINUED OUR LEGACY OF CREATING A MARKETPLACE TO CONNECT FARMERS AND SMALL FOOD BUSINESSES WITH OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS, WHILE ALSO DEALING WITH THE CONTINUING FALLOUT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. BUILDING ON THE 2020 SEASON, WE HAD ENHANCED HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS TO BEST SERVE OUR CUSTOMERS AND VENDORS. BY MID- SEASON, IN AUGUST, WE WERE ABLE TO RESUME IN PERSON KIDS' CRAFT ACTIVITIES, MUSICAL PERFORMANCES, AND LIMITED DINING ON-SITE. WE HAD NEARLY 26,000 CUSTOMER VISITS AND OVER $736,000 SPENT AND RETURNED INTO THE LOCAL ECONOMY. PRODUCE AT MARKET TRAVELED AN AVERAGE OF 74 MILES FROM FARM TO BFM (COMPARED TO 1,500 MILES FOR FOOD AT TRADITIONAL RETAILERS), THEREBY REDUCING CUSTOMERS' CARBON FOOTPRINTS.BFM PLAYS AN ESSENTIAL ROLE IN PROVIDING ACCESS TO HEALTHY, FRESH PRODUCE TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY. IN 2021, BFM WAS THE ONLY FARMERS MARKETS ON THE EASTSIDE OF SEATTLE THAT WAS EQUIPPED TO BOTH ACCEPT EB AND ADMINISTER MATCHING INCENTIVE DOLLARS IN THE FORM OF MARKET MATCH BACKS. THIS PROGRAM INCREASED DRAMATICALLY DURING 2020 AND ONCE AGAIN IN 2021. $12,897 WAS DISPENSED TO LOW-INCOME CUSTOMERS IN THE FORM OF EBT AND MARKET MATCH BUCKS.
