THE JUSTICE POLICY INSTITUTE IS DEDICATED TO REDUCING THE USE OF INCARCERATION AND INVOLVEMENT IN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM BY PROMOTING FAIR AND EFFECTIVE POLICIES.

Part 3 - Line 4a

JPI PROVIDED PROGRAMMATIC ASSISTANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT SUPPORT FOR A TEAM OF CONSULTANTS WHO ESTABLISHED A SPECIALIZED YOUNG ADULT UNIT IN RIKERS ISLAND. THIS SPECIAL PROJECT WAS CARRIED OUT UNDER THE THE INTERIM COMMISSIONER OF NEW YORK CITY'S DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS.


JPI CONDUCTED RESEARCH AND IDENTIFIED STRATEGIES FOR COMMUNITIES TO RESPOND TO YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS INVOLVED IN VIOLENT CRIME, INCLUDING HOW BEST TO INVOLVE CRIME SURVIVORS IN THE EFFORT. THIS WORK LEAD TO THE RELEASE OF THE REPORT SMART, SAFE, AND FAIR II: CREATING EFFECTIVE SYSTEMS TO WORK WITH YOUTH INVOLVED IN VIOLENT BEHAVIOR


MARYLAND JUSTICE REFORM - JPI CONTINUED TO PROVIDE RESEARCH AND POLICY SUPPORT FOR JUSTICE REFORM INITIATIVES TO REDUCE MARYLAND'S RELIANCE ON PRISON. JPI SUPPORTED VARIOUS COALITIONS AND TO ADVANCE REFORM INITIATIVES AND BUILDING STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS AND RELATIONSHIPS TO ENHANCE JUSTICE REFORM WORK IN MARYLAND. JPI IS ALSO SERVING AS A FISCAL SPONSOR FOR THE MARYLAND PRISONER RIGHTS COALITION AS THEY WORK ON DECARCERATION EFFORTS IN MARYLAND.
