WOOD LIBRARY IS A FULL SERVICE PUBLIC LIBRARY. ITS MISSION IS TO PROVIDE A SAFE AND INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT WHERE PEOPLE CAN SPARK THEIR IMAGINATIONS, SATISFY THEIR CURIOSITY, ENGAGE IN LIFELONG LEARNING, AND MAKE COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS. WOOD LIBRARY OFFERS TRADITIONAL LIBRARY COLLECTIONS INCLUDING BOOKS, MAGAZINES, DVDS, AUDIO-BOOKS IN MANY FORMATS (INCLUDING DOWNLOADABLE), VIDEOGAMES, MUSIC CDS, NEWSPAPERS, LARGE PRINT BOOKS, LOCAL HISTORY, AND TAX FORMS. IT PROVIDES HUNDREDS OF EDUCATIONAL, CULTURAL AND RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES FOR ALL AGES EACH YEAR. THE LIBRARY USES THE LATEST IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND IS STAFFED BY FOUR PROFESSIONAL LIBRARIANS, 5 FULL-TIME SUPPORT STAFF, AND 19 PART-TIME EMPLOYEES. IT ALSO OFFERS FAX AND COPY SERVICE, AND A NOTARY PUBLIC. WOOD LIBRARY IS A MEMBER OF THE OWWL LIBRARY SYSTEM. WOOD LIBRARY IS A FREE ASSOCIATION LIBRARY CHARTED TO SERVE THE GREATER CANANDAIGUA AREA. AS A MEMBER OF THE 4-COUNTY 42 MEMBER LIBRARY OWWL LIBRARY SYSTEM, IT OFFERS FREE SERVICES TO RESIDENTS OF ONTARIO, WAYNE, WYOMING, AND LIVINGSTON COUNTIES. AFTER SEVERAL PANDEMIC YEARS THAT FORCED THE LIBRARY TO REIMAGINE PUBLIC SERVICES, THE LIBRARY RETURNED TO FULL OPERATING HOURS AND STAFFING IN 2021. IN 2021, 64,428 PEOPLE VISITED THE LIBRARY, UP 35% FROM 2020. 11,263 PEOPLE USED THEIR LIBRARY CARD TO CHECK OUT 158,234 ITEMS, AN INCREASE OF 37%. THE LIBRARY SAW AN INCREASE IN USAGE OF DOWNLOADABLE BOOKS WITH PATRONS DOWNLOADING 57,825 EBOOKS AND AUDIOBOOKS, UP 16%. PATRONS WERE ALSO ABLE TO REGISTER FOR A LIBRARY CARD ONLINE - 224 DIGITAL LIBRARY CARDS ISSUED, AN INCREASE OF 57%. STAFF SUPPORTED 436 REFERENCE REQUESTS AND 42 NOTARY APPOINTMENTS. WOOD LIBRARY PROVIDES PROGRAMS OF ALL AGES. 14,091 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN 521 LIVE PROGRAMS AND 117 RECORDED LIBRARY PROGRAMS WERE VIEWED BY 10,539 PERSONS. PROGRAMS INCLUDE BOOK DISCUSSIONS, FILM SERIES, CRAFT PROGRAMS, STORYTIMES, BOOK REVIEWS, AUTHOR TALKS, SUPPORT GROUPS, AND VARIOUS EDUCATIONAL LECTURES. ADULTS WHO ATTENDING DIGITAL LITERACY CLASSES LEARNED COMPUTER BASICS AND SOFTWARE PROGRAMS. PROBLEM DEVICES COULD ALSO BE BROUGHT IN AND DISCUSSED WITH A TECH TUTOR. PUBLIC INTERNET COMPUTERS WERE USED 7,606 TIMES IN 2021 AND PATRONS LOGGED 4,419 WIRELESS SESSIONS, UP 9%. PATRONS RELY ON THE LIBRARY'S INTERNET ACCESS TO CONDUCT RESEARCH, WRITE REPORTS AND RESUMES, PAY BILLS, APPLY FOR JOBS, MAKE RESERVATIONS, APPLY FOR UNEMPLOYMENT, BANK ONLINE, TAKE ONLINE COURSES AND CHECK EMAIL. THE LIBRARY'S MANY PUBLIC HOTSPOTS FOR LOAN ARE POPULAR AMONG LIBRARY PATRONS. THE AARP OFFERS DRIVER SAFETY COURSES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND TAX AIDE HELP DURING TAX SEASON. 298 PERSONS RECEIVED TAX AIDE ASSISTANCE THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH AARP. WOOD LIBRARY CONTINUES TO LOAN MUSEUM PASSES FOR AREA ATTRACTIONS.
