SCHENECTADY COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM IS COMMITTED TO ALLEVIATING THE SYMPTOMS AND ERADICATING THE CAUSES OF POVERTY BY HELPING PEOPLE HELP THEMSELVES WHEN THEY ARE IN ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, OR EDUCATIONAL NEED. WE DO THIS BY IDENTIFYING CHANGING COMMUNITY NEEDS AND MOBILIZING RESOURCES, ADMINISTRATING PROGRAMS TO ADDRESS ONGOING COMMUNITY NEEDS AND INDIVIDUAL AND SYSTEMIC ADVOCACY ON BEHALF OF THOSE SCAP SERVES.

EARLY LEARNING PROGRAMS HEAD START IS A COMPREHENSIVE PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR 3-5 YEAR OLDS THAT ENRICHES A CHILD'S LEARNING EXPERIENCES AND PREPARES THEM FOR KINDERGARTEN AND CONTINUED SUCCESS IN SCHOOL. HEAD START'S CURRICULUM FOCUSES ON THE CHILD'S EDUCATIONAL, SOCIAL, AND EMOTIONAL NEEDS AND FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES EMBRACE THE PHILOSOPHY THAT THE PARENTS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT AND INFLUENTIAL EDUCATOR OF THEIR CHILDREN


HOUSING & COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS- HOUSING PROGRAMS PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES TO HOMELESS FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY BY ASSISTING FAMILIES IN OBTAINING AND MAINTAINING PERMANENT HOUSING, AS WELL AS WORKING TOWARD THE GOALS THE FAMILIES HAVE SET FOR THEMSELVES. COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS INCLUDE SEVERAL CORE AGENCY SERVICES THAT ARE AT THE HEART OF SCAP'S GOAL TO IMPROVE THE SYSTEMS THAT AFFECT LOW INCOME PEOPLE. THESE SERVICES ARE DIVIDED INTO COMMUNITY ADVOCACY, EMERGENCY SERVICES, COMMUNITY CRISIS NETWORK, AND INCOME TAX PREPARATION
