THE PRESERVE'S PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO PRESERVE THE NATURUAL BEAUTY OF ITS LANDS AND TO INCREASE THE GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND LOVE OF NATURE.

THE HUYCK PRESERVE'S MISSION-BASED PROGRAMS SEEK TO FOSTER ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP, A LOVE FOR AND UNDERSTANDING OF NATURE, AND AN APPRECIATION FOR THE NATURAL RESOURCES THAT ARE INTEGRAL TO LIFE IN OUR REGION. EDUCATION PROGRAMS AT THE HUYCK PRESERVE EXPOSE PREK-16 STUDENTS TO HANDS- ON LESSONS IN ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE. IN 2023 OVER 700 STUDENTS ATTENDED SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS FROM NINE SCHOOLS/GRADES ACROSS THE REGION. FIFTY STUDENTS JOINED US FOR OUR K-16 SUMMER PROGRAMS. THE NATURE EXPLORATION PROGRAM FOR HOMESCHOOL STUDENTS RAN IN SPRING AND FALL. A NEW READ+HIKE PUBLIC EDUCATION PROGRAM LAUNCHED AND RAN FROM SPRING THROUGH FALL. OUR SUMMER THURSDAY NIGHT LECTURE SERIES CONTINUED TO CONNECT THE PUBLIC WITH OUR ACTIVE RESEARCH PROGRAM WHICH IN 2023 BROUGHT EIGHT RESEARCHERS FROM AS CLOSE AS COLUMBIA-GREENE COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND AS FAR AS GERMANY. OUR CONSERVATION WORK IN 2023 FOCUSED LARGELY ON STEWARDSHIP AND PARTICULARLY WORK ON MANAGING AND MONITORING INVASIVE PLANTS AND FOREST PESTS. PEOPLE CONTINUED TO COME TO THE PRESERVE TO RECREATE ON OUR 12+ MILES OF TRAILS AND IN OUR LAKE.


CONTINUED APPRECIATION OF NATURAL SURROUNDINGS THROUGH EDUCATION, TRAIL WALKS, AND REACH-OUTS TO LOCAL SCHOOL STUDENTS.
