SEE SCHEDULE OREADER'S DIGEST PARTNERS FOR SIGHT FOUNDATION PROVIDES MONETARY SUPPORT TO ORGANIZATIONS WHICH PROVIDE DIRECT SERVICES TO PEOPLE WHO ARE BLIND OR VISUALLY IMPAIRED. OUR SUPPORT ENABLES THESE ORGANIZATIONS TO SERVE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED PERSONS OF ALL AGES, AND AT VARIOUS STAGES OF THEIR VISION LOSS BY PROVIDING SKILLS TRAINING IN, FOR EXAMPLE, ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING, ORIENTATION AND MOBILITY, ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY, GUIDE DOG USAGE, LOW VISION REHABILITATION, LITERACY AND BRAILLE. SUPPORT IS ALSO OFFERED FOR ORGANIZATIONS PROVIDING CAREER, VOCATIONAL, RECREATION AND YOUTH-IN-TRANSITION PROGRAMS FOR BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED PEOPLE. RDPFS ALSO PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES LISTS, AS WELL AS OUTREACH TO LOW VISION ORGANIZATIONS SERVING BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED INDIVIDUALS. WE ALSO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO IMPROVE DOCTOR/PATIENT COMMUNICATION IN THE OPHTHALMIC FIELD, WITH THE AIM OF INCREASING REFERRALS INTO THE LOW VISION REHABILITATION SYSTEM. RDPFS HAS A THOROUGH GRANT PROPOSAL AND OUTCOME EVALUATION PROCESS WHICH HELPS ENSURE THE SUCCESS OF THE FUNDED PROGRAMS. IN FISCAL YEAR 2022, RDPFS MADE A TOTAL OF 15 GRANTS TO 15 DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. GRANT MONIES WERE DESIGNATED FOR:* THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DATABASE ON VISION REHABILITATION SERVICES FOR THE BLIND AND LOW VISION POPULATION TO ACCESS AS A REFERRAL SOURCE FOR SERVICES;* THE DEVELOPMENT AND CONTINUED IMPLEMENTATION OF A MUSIC EDUCATION CURRICULUM DESIGNED TO BE ADMINISTERED VIRTUALLY FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE BLIND AND VISION IMPAIRED;* THE PROVISION OF VISION SCREENING SERVICES AND GLASSES, IF NEEDED, TO STUDENTS IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM OF FIVE STATES IN THE COUNTRY;* THE PROVISION OF VISION SCREENING SERVICES AND GLASSES, IF NEEDED, TO VULNERABLE CHILDREN AND ADULTS ON A NATIONAL SCALE;* SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS LIVING WITH BLINDNESS AND VISION IMPAIRMENT AT A SUMMER CAMP DESIGNED TO PROVIDE ADAPTED ATHLETICS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES;* PURCHASE OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT FOR A SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND AND VISION IMPAIRED ALLOWING STUDENTS AND STAFF TO RETURN TO AN IN PERSON LEARNING ENVIRONMENT;* THE CONTINUED CREATION OF RECORDED BOOKS OF VARIOUS ACADEMIC TITLES, USED BY BLIND AND VISION IMPAIRED STUDENTS, INCLUDING IT SUPPORT FOR ELECTRONIC DOWNLOADS OF AUDIO FILES;* THE CREATION OF A BOOK CLUB WHICH MET VIRTUALLY, THUS ALLOWING SOCIALIZATION FOR BLIND AND VISION IMPAIRED SENIORS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC;* THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CURRICULUM THAT PROMOTES WIDESPREAD LONG-TERM CHANGE AND IMPROVEMENTS IN TRAINING FOR TEACHERS OF THE VISION IMPAIRED BY OFFERING CONTINUING EDUCATION TO PROFESSIONALS AND STUDENTS IN THE BLIND AND VISION IMPAIRED COMMUNITY IN UNIVERSITY SETTINGS;* THE SUPPORT OF A TEENS' SCHOOL TO WORK TRANSITION PROGRAM FOR BLIND AND VISION IMPAIRED STUDENTS IN THE CHICAGO AREA;* THE DEVELOPMENT OF COLLEGE READINESS PROGRAMS ADDRESSING THE SPECIAL NEEDS BLIND AND VISION IMPAIRED STUDENTS FACE WHEN THEY ENTER POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION SETTINGS;* PROGRAMMING THAT TRAINS SENIORS WITH VISION LOSS TO LEARN INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS USING EQUIPMENT THAT ACCOMMODATES ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING FOR PEOPLE WITH VISION IMPAIRMENT ALLOWING THEM TO CONTINUE TO LIVE IN THEIR HOMES INDEPENDENTLY;* FOR THE SECOND YEAR OF A PILOT PROGRAM WHICH ADAPTS A NATIONALLY SUCCESSFUL VOCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR TEENS, INTO A PROGRAM FOR BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED ADULTS, WITH THE RESULT BEING GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT IN AND AROUND THE BOSTON AREA;* THE SUPPORT FOR A NATIONAL GUIDE DOG TRAINING PROGRAM FOR BLIND INDIVIDUALS WITH MULTIPLE DISABILITIES.IN AGGREGATE, THESE PROGRAMS SERVE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ACROSS THE U.S. ON A YEARLY BASIS.
