POPPA WAS ESTABLISHED AND ORGANIZED FOR CHARITABLE PURPOSES TO PROVIDE PEER ASSISTANCE TO MEMBERS OF POLICE ORGANIZATIONS, THEIR FAMILIES AND TO RELATED ORGANIZATIONS AND TO CONDUCT ANY AND ALL LAWFUL ACTIVITIES WHICH MAY BE USEFUL IN ACCOMPLISHING THE FOREGOING PURPOSES.

THE POLICE RELIEF FUND, INC. PROVIDED ANNUAL FUNDING TO POPPA BASED UPON A BUDGET SUBMITTED AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH YEAR. THE FUNDING WAS USED EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE BENEFIT (COUNSELING, ETC.) OF POLICE OFFICERS IN THE NEW YORK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT. BUDGETED EXPENSES INCLUDE PERSONNEL, ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT, PATIENT TREATMENT, TRAINING AND DEVELOPEMNT, TELEPHONE, PAGER SERVICE, A 24-HOUR SUICIDE HELPLINE AND OTHERS.
THE SUICIDE AWARENESS FOR FIRST EMERGENCY RESPONDERS ("SAFER")PROGRAM IS A SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION PROGRAM UNDER WHICH POPPA PROACTIVELY CONDUCTS OUTREACHES BY SPEAKING AND PRESENTING TO NYC POLICE OFFICERS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS.
