DOSOMETHING.ORG FUELS YOUNG PEOPLE TO CHANGE THE WORLD. OUR VISION IS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO COLLECTIVELY CHANGE THE WORLD BY TAKING ACTION ON THE MOST PRESSING ISSUES TO THEM. WE HAVE NEARLY 30 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE ACTIVATING YOUNG PEOPLE TO CHANGE THE WORLD. WE EDUCATE AND EQUIP OUR MEMBERS AS THEY START AND SUSTAIN THEIR JOURNEY TO BE CHANGE-AGENTS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. DOSOMETHING REMAINED A RELEVANT HUB FOR YOUNG PEOPLE COMMITTED TO DOING GOOD IN 2021. YOUNG PEOPLE CONTINUED TO SHOW US THE WAY FORWARD AND WE LISTENED TO THEM. WE RAN 23 CAMPAIGNS IN 11 CAUSE SPACES. OUR MEMBERS LAUNCHED COMMUNITY-BUILDING EFFORTS TO STRENGTHEN CONNECTIONS IN PERSON AND ONLINE. THEY ADVOCATED FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE, ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE DISPROPORTIONATELY EXPERIENCING THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE. THEY DEMANDED EQUITY AND HONESTY IN HOW SCHOOLS TEACH RACE AND RACISM AND EDUCATED THEMSELVES AND THEIR PEERS ABOUT HOW TOBACCO USE IS A SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUE. THEY OWNED THEIR MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS AND WORKED TO DESTIGMATIZE THE TOPIC BY EQUIPPING THEMSELVES AND THEIR PEERS WITH DIVERSE, ACCESSIBLE MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES, WHILE ADVOCATING FOR ADDITIONAL HEALTH AND MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES IN SCHOOLS NATIONWIDE. DOSOMETHING FUELED YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH CAMPAIGNS THAT WERE INTERSECTIONAL, EQUITABLE, AND IMPACTFUL: COMMUNITY BUILDING. OUR MEMBERS TOOK ACTION TO UNIFY AND BRING JOY BACK TO THEIR COMMUNITIES AFTER A SECOND YEAR OF LOSS AND UNCERTAINTY RESULTING FROM THE PANDEMIC BY VOLUNTEERING OVER 56,358 HOURS TO HELP THOSE IN NEED BY DONATING 349,029 NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS TO LOCAL FOOD BANKS AND 288,375 PERIOD PRODUCTS TO LOCAL HOMELESS SHELTERS. ENVIRONMENT & CLIMATE JUSTICE. FUELED BY THEIR PASSION TO LEAVE THE EARTH BETTER THAN THEY FOUND IT, YOUNG PEOPLE COLLECTED 416,036 CIGARETTE BUTTS THROUGH GET THE FILTER OUT AND SAVED 5,691 POUNDS OF CO2 EMISSIONS BY SWITCHING FROM SOLO CAR RIDES TO CARPOOLS, BIKE RIDES, AND PUBLIC TRANSIT THROUGH GO THERE GREENER. WE EDUCATED YOUTH ABOUT CLIMATE INJUSTICE AND ENVIRONMENTAL RACISM THROUGH SEE US, HEAR US AND ACTIVATED THEM TO ENVISION A GREENER FUTURE THROUGH OUR FIRST-EVER "YOUTH MAP OF CLIMATE INJUSTICE." EQUITY & RACIAL JUSTICE. YOUNG PEOPLE'S ACTIVISM IN 2021 TARGETED SYSTEMIC RACIAL INEQUITIES AND INJUSTICES THAT INTERSECTED WITH EVERY ASPECT OF OUR SOCIETY. IN WHOLE HISTORIES, 21,995 YOUTH ADVOCATED FOR BETTER TEACHING STANDARDS ON RACE, RACISM, AND HISTORY AND THROUGH THE WHY WE SHOULD CARE CAMPAIGN OUR MEMBERS SHARED 7,893 PERSONAL STORIES OF HOW TOBACCO USE HAD A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THEMSELVES, THEIR LOVED ONES, AND THEIR COMMUNITIES. THROUGH STEM WORKS FOR ME, DOSOMETHING PROMPTED MEMBERS TO USE A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL TO MATCH THEIR INTERESTS TO A VIABLE AREA IN STEM AND SKILLED TRADES AND SHARE 12,268 OCCUPATIONS WITH THEIR PEERS TO INCREASE THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF STEM-BASED CAREERS. HEALTH & MENTAL WELLNESS. OUR MEMBERS NAVIGATED THE SIGNIFICANT CONSEQUENCES OF SOCIAL ISOLATION, GRIEF, AND ANXIETY WROUGHT BY THE PANDEMIC, WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY TAKING STOCK OF THE SYSTEMIC DISPARITIES IN THE U.S. HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. THEY POSTED 4,846 FLYERS WITH INFORMATION ABOUT FREE AND IDENTITY-FOCUSED MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES AND ADVOCATED TO LOCAL AND STATE REPRESENTATIVES FOR ADDITIONAL RESOURCES FOR IN-SCHOOL COUNSELING SERVICES.
