THE MISSION OF THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM OF THE ARTS IS TO INTRODUCE CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES TO THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF THE ARTS BY PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES TO MAKE ART SIDE-BY-SIDE WITH WORKING ARTISTS.

GENERAL PROGRAMMING: IN THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2021, CMA SERVED ABOUT 149,357 VISITORS; WITH OVER 115,774 RECEIVING FREE SERVICES. NOTABLE CMA PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE LOOK MAKE SHOW DIGITAL COMMONS, A FREE VIRTUAL ARCHIVE OF ON-DEMAND CHILD-CENTERED ARTS EDUCATION RESOURCES.


COMMUNITY PROGRAMS: IN THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR, CMA SERVED NEARLY 17,247 PEOPLE IN OVER 20 EXTERNAL EDUCATION SITES, LIBRARIES, COMMUNITY CENTERS, OR SHELTERS ACROSS THE CITY. OVER 80% OF THE YOUNG ARTISTS SERVED IN OUR SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS COME FROM MINORITY BACKGROUNDS. CMA'S APPROACH TO EXPERIENCING AND CREATING WORKS OF ART BENEFITS EACH CHILD'S INTELLECTUAL, PERSONAL, AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, AND IS PARTICULARLY POWERFUL IN REACHING AT-RISK CHILDREN AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES.


CLASSES: CMA SERVED OVER 4,038 PEOPLE IN OUR AWARD-WINNING CLASSES OFFERED IN BOTH DIGITAL MEDIA AND FINE ARTS. CLASSES INCLUDED: START STUDIO (0-5 YEARS), AFTER SCHOOL (5-12 YEARS), AND ART COLONY (6-15 YEARS). DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, CLASSES WERE HELD PRIMARILY ONLINE AND EMPHASIZED INSPIRATION FOR AT-HOME ART EXPLORATION WHILE BRIDGING BROAD COMMUNITY THEMES INCLUDING SPECIAL SESSIONS DEVOTED TO INDIGENOUS PEOPLE'S DAY, WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH, DIA DE LOS MUERTOS, AND MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY.
