THE TENEMENT MUSEUM TELLS THE UNIQUELY AMERICAN STORIES OF IMMIGRANTS, MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES IN THE ONGOING CREATION OF OUR NATION.

PUBLIC PROGRAMS - TOURS AND PRESENTATIONS TO IMPART KNOWLEDGE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC CONCERNING THE HISTORY OF THE IMMIGRATION MOVEMENT IN AMERICA. SUCH KNOWLEDGE IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE PURPOSE OF THE EXEMPT ACTIVITY - THE OPERATION OF A HISTORICAL MUSEUM. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED 2021, 33,672 VISITORS TOURED THE MUSEUM. THIS WAS A HISTORIC DECLINE IN VISITORS, WHICH CARRIED OVER FROM COVID-19 RELATED IMPACTS TO VISITORSHIP IN THE PRIOR YEAR. ON MARCH 14TH, 2020 THE MUSEUM CLOSED ITS DOORS DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. IN MAY 2020, WE QUICKLY PIVOTED, CREATED AND LAUNCHED VIRTUAL CONTENT. THESE PROGRAMS WERE THE MUSEUMS'S FIRST VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS FOR SCHOOL GROUPS AND THE MUSEUM EXTENDED THIS CONTENT RICH VIRTUAL TOUR TO THE PUBLIC IN JUNE 2020. THE FY21 NUMBERS INCLUDE VISITORS ON THESE PUBLIC VIRTUAL PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS WALKING TOURS AND PUBLIC ONSITE TOURS AS THEY WERE BROUGHT BACK ONLINE IN AUGUST 2020 AND MAY 2021, RESPECTIVELY.
MUSEUM SHOP - THE GIFT SHOP OFFERS BOOKS, MULTIMEDIA, MUSEUM PRODUCTS, GIFTS AND TOYS THAT DOCUMENT AND/ OR COMMEMORATE THE IMMIGRANT EXPERIENCES AND THE STORIES OF LIFE AND HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVES OF THE LOWER EAST SIDE.
