PROVIDE ADDITIONAL EDUCATIONAL, CULTURAL AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR SELECTED ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO LIVE IN THE NYC AREA; PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO ALUMNI OF THE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM WHO GO ON TO COLLEGE AND GRADUATE SCHOOL.

COURSES - A SHAKESPEARE STUDY TAUGHT BY HUDSON VALLEY SHAKESPEARE COMPANY WAS OFFERED TO 22 STUDENTS OF CSSP. 22 STUDENTS STUDIED ONE PLAY DURING THE FOUR WEEK SESSION, THEN SAW IT BE PERFORMED AT BOSCOBEL, AND THEN PERFORMED IT THEMSELVES TO AN AUDIENCE OF PEERS AND FRIENDS. STUDENTS ALSO STUDIED FILM AND FILM-MAKING AT THE JACOB BURNS FILM CENTER, COMPUTER SCIENCE, AND WRITING.
THE CHAPPAQUA SUMMER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM PROVIDES GRANTS TO ALL HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES OF THE PROGRAM IF THEY ARE ENROLLED FULL TIME AT AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY TO PURCHASE BOOKS AND MATERIALS FOR THEIR COLLEGE STUDY. STUDENTS SUBMIT THEIR PAST GRADES AND UPCOMING SCHEDULES TO QUALIFY. THEY RECEIVE $450 PER SEMESTER. CHECKS ARE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE STUDENTS EACH SEMESTER AFTER THEIR DOCUMENTATION IS RECEIVED. THE PROGRAM WAS EXPANDED THIS YEAR TO INCLUDE BOTH UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS. FROM 25 TO 35 STUDENTS APPLY FOR THE BOOK STIPEND EACH SEMESTER.
CULTURAL & RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS INCLUDED SWIMMING, TENNIS, ROCK CLIMBING, MUSEUM VISITS, KAYAKING ON THE HUDSON RIVER AND A COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT. 22 CSSP STUDENTS ATTENDED. THIS EXPENSE ALSO INCLUDED TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE EVENTS AS WELL AS EXPENSES FOR THE GRADUATION CEREMONY HELD AT THE NEW CASTLE COMMUNITY CENTER.
