TCS NYC MARATHON:IN FISCAL YEAR 2022, NYRR HELD THE 50TH RUNNING OF THE NEW YORK CITY MARATHON, WHICH WAS AT A LOWER THEN NORMAL CAPACITY (ABOUT 50%) DUE TO THE ONGOING RESTRICTIONS ISSUED BY STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS REGARDING LARGE PUBLIC GATHERINGS. THE EVENT INCLUDED RESOLUTION RUNNERS (PEOPLE WHO OPTED TO RECEIVE COMPLIMENTARY GUARANTEED ENTRANCE INTO THE 2021 EVENT FROM THE 2020 CANCELLATION PROCESS). THE MARATHON WAS HELD ON NOVEMBER 7, 2021 WITH OVER 25,000 RUNNERS FROM OVER 90 COUNTRIES, ALL 50 STATES, INCLUDING D.C. AND PUERTO RICO, FINISHING THE RACE.
OTHER COMMUNITY EVENT:IN FISCAL YEAR 2022, 133,000 RUNNERS PARTICIPATED IN APPROXIMATELY 29 IN-PERSON NYRR EVENTS, INCLUDING A WIDE VARIETY OF RACES OF VARYING DISTANCES THROUGHOUT THE FIVE BOROUGHS OF NEW YORK CITY. EVENTS INCLUDED 2 OF THE FIVE BOROUGH SERIES (BRONX 10M AND NYC HALF) AS THE OTHER 3 RACES WERE CANCELED DUE TO THE ONGOING IMPACT OF THE PANDEMIC (BROOKLYN HALF, QUEENS 10MILER, STATEN ISLAND HALF), AND 27 WEEKLY AND NYRR HERITAGE RACES. AN ADDITIONAL 110,000 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN VIRTUAL RACES ONLINE FROM ALL AROUND THE WORLD.
YOUTH AND COMMUNITY PROGRAM SERVICES:NYRR PROVIDES YOUTH AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS THAT DEVELOP EVERY GENERATION OF RUNNER, HELPING CREATE A HEALTHY AND MORE ACTIVE NEW YORK CITY AND BEYOND. OUR PROGRAMS PROVIDE RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES TO ENGAGE RUNNERS OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES. RISING NEW YORK ROAD RUNNERS SUPPORTS SCHOOLS WITH CURRICULUM, ACTIVITIES, AND RESOURCES TO PROMOTE PHYSICAL LITERACY AND BUILD THE FRAMEWORK FOR YOUTH MOVEMENT. OUR OTHER YOUTH PROGRAMS INCLUDE A YOUTH WHEELCHAIR RACE TRAINING PROGRAM; RUN FOR THE FUTURE, WHICH PROVIDES RUNNING, HEALTH, AND FITNESS TRAINING TO HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS, AND OUR YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM WHICH HELPS YOUNG PEOPLE BUILD PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS THROUGH SPEAKING OPPORTUNITIES AT NYRR EVENTS.
